That last hit was early august and being generally quite a poor month for carp i decided on just the odd overnighter, just to see how the baited areas were responding.3 blank nights later on the pipes swim and im scratching my head lol.Feeling around with a marker at the end of the 3rd session i snagged on something that would not allow me a retrieve,so i walked the rod along the point to get a pull from the otherside and slowly things started moving and i noticed i was attached to line.Moments later i witnessed the probable cause of inactivity over the last few sessions as the rotting carcuss of a dead coot attached to one of my old rigs comes towards me,oh the stench
Now,im not sure how fish react to rotting birds but at least i had a half reasonable explanation as to no captures, not even the bream, which considering the amount of bait that i had put in was unheard of.So with the rotting bird removed i rested the swim for a further week and then slowly started to introduce a few kilos again. An overnighter on friday saw me have 4 bream bites, although not quite what i was after, very incouraging to know that fish were once again feeding in the area
3 kilos were put in this morning as the fish could be seen holding up in the cliffes and would probably stay there untill the wind turned SE or southerlie to bring them back out again,so i thought rather than fish i would keep the area topped up.Now about an hour ago littlelegs phoned to say that one of our mates had just set up in the pipes, not impressed by this i started to get a bit shirty, but thought it would be a good gauge as to whether i had made the correct choice not to fish but to bait?I shall find out in the morning no doubt. We are now up to date with events up to this point,so anything else that appears is pretty much straight off the press so will keep you informed. Thanks for reading and good luck people _________________ KIBIK

Stay tuned lads, after a bout of severe ill health i have not managed any fishing for months but will be resuming very shortly, health wise i am knocking back the vino and the chocca mochas are going down a treat,so it looks like the old body is tolerating its nightly doses of poison with no ill effects!!!!!!!!!

And so,after a bout of ill health,a decision was made to fish a lake called Brooklands which is at the back of the mid-kent larkfield complex. The choice was made purely to get my teeth into a new water and hopefully get my foot in the door for the big lake known to many as ALDERS.Toward the end of the 2008-2009 season i walked Brooklands banks, making mental notes of captures, which were few and potential hotspots,a plan was then formulated and the first steps of this were taken in the shape of a liberal sprinkle of U.C.N bait, which one will remain a bit hush hush as im just starting to fish so i hope you can appreciate that this comes hot off the bank!!!!
foolishly i had decided to fish the easter weekend or rather,i blagged a day off b4 the rush and managed to get to the lake on the wednesday evening.A strong south westerly had been pushing into one of the areas i had been introducing bait and as i drove through the lakes gates i noticed the swim i favoured was free!Happy days!NOT!
T he swim in question is situated in the north/north east corner and commands quite a large area of water, but,i never imagined i would be hemmed in either side for 3 days and nights, the anglers lines either side of me obstructing the carps route into my carefully primed area.As most know my style, around 15kg of bait was put out in anticipation of the slaughter that was exspected!Well i sat their for the 3 days pulling my hair out as every swim on the lake bar one which was up the far end of the lake was occupied, the fish visibly crashing way out in the middle out of the way of the rows of lines that must have stood out like ropes in the gin clear water.
Second night passed and a crowd gathered on the opposite bank,so being quick on the uptake it dawned on me that something rather special had been caught by the captor.Reports drifted round the lake that a common of 40lb 12ozs had made an appearance to a fella called Dan who had fished right through the winter and had had his efforts rewarded by this fine capture.A few other fish were caught around the lake, most of which were the stockies weighing around the upper double bracket, which considering their weight on introduction, most have put on 7-8lb in a year!
And so i waited, and waited, the sw wind still piling into me but not a sign of a carp! I was trapped,my only option was either home or sit it out and seeing as this was my first session since last August, that was my decision all this time the fish continued to rub our noses in it by doing their dolphin display way out into the abyss! _________________ KIBIK

Thanks Mac........
Saturday arrived and with it a new wind which was pushing right into the only vacant swim on the south bank and with its arrival a few anglers had had enuf and were packing away to return home???
I watched the water intently for any tell tale signs of the carps journey to the windward end at the same time a move was made to the next swim up from me which would give me a chance to hit the fish way out in the middle. But the move did nothing to improve my chances and i was paceing up and down full of indecision untill eventually i could take it no more,i hurriedly reeled in and got in the motor and drove to the other end of the lake to take a look.the sight of a huge dark common sliding out and silently slipping back in was enuf to kick start me into move mode as the only fish that dark was a common reputably known to be around mid 40s so the possibility of a pb common was too much to take in as i raced to get my gear and get there as quick as possible!!
Whilst packing i noticed that the fish way out were starting to follow the wind which made me panic and the rods were crammed into the car with the rest of the tackle dumped unceremoniously in with them and i drove the long trip round praying that no one had seen the fish id seen?Luck was on my side and i arrived, unpacked and made 3 trips to the new swim, sweating and heaving as the last bits were delivered to the swim!
BOSH! BOSH! BOSH! 3 shows within a minute just 20 yards out had me all a pickle and i quickly tied up a new dynamite stick and retied a new pop up and flicked it out to where the fish were showing and in the same area as the big common was seen earlier.I saw at least 10 more shows whilst setting up the second rod when beeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeep,im away in under 2 minutes............. _________________ KIBIK

...............i dropped the rod i was preparing to the ground and lifted into the fish,my heart sank as on contact,i knew in my heart that it was not the big common that i had seen earlier.but, non the less it was my first carp take from the water which gave me a spirited 10 minute fight and turned out to be one of the lakes stockies,a mirror of around 15lbs.The fish was slipped back and the same rod rebaited and cast to the same rod,the other 2 soon followed to their respective chosen areas, which in hindsight i should have left for a while as the shows stopped for a while and not a fish was seen untill the onset of darkness. My spirits begin to rise as the fish once again put on a display until around midnight i retired to the bivvy for some much needed sleep!!
2.00 am and the same rods away again, this fish fought slightly deeper than the last and a 17lb common was safely landed, rod out, back to bed a happy carper!!! 5.am the middle rodbleeps then stops?i hover over it and notice the rod top knocking, the strike meeting with some thing solid. This fish went everywhere and kept shaking its head, which made me think it had been hooked sometime earlier,5 minutes later another common of around 13lbs was mine, agood start to my new season,3 fish late in the session, but the top capture of fish that week made those previous 3 nights stuck in my original swim seem that wee bit more bearable......... _________________ KIBIK

Just done my second weekedn on the UCN bait
one lake tricky took fish to just under 3o common
this weekend done overnighter or notoriously hard pit took another one just under 30 common,
my mate is down there now just checked my margin spot and has been completely cleened, cant say the pits name but not a great number of carp to the size of water and proper home grown history fish which to catch one without the aid of a boat has got me buzzing so thanks again dean
intresting point!!!!!!
Took the hoookers that dean had give me, before every other hook bait on the spot.
same happened to my friend who nicked couple of hoookers watched fish in the margin of a canal same thing happened, they bloody love em
Top Bloke
even better fact....... Top Bait
cheers dean buzzing on the bait already |
