first entery to my UCN blog

It all started a couple of weeks ago when i spoke to dean at UCN and just a week later my first batch of SPICEZYME arrived keen to try it out I planned a 1 night session on a local pit on my club ticket. I arrived on the Friday evening at about 4pm and decided to set up on the teeth of a sw wind with Adam to my left and later nick to my right a little social was in order. the rods were baited with SPICEZYME and two spots were found about a kilo on each spot and im sorted. the rain soon started and we all retreated to our bivvy’s (mine leaking like there was no bivvy there) at 12 midnight my right rod tightened up and i was in a short spirited fight resulted in a 17lb common was in the net a quick photo done rod back out and back in the sack until at 7am the same rod pulled tight and i was in again a short scrap resulted in a 14lb common quick photo on the matt and breakfast is on my mind!

the next result came on an overnighter midweek last week. got to the lake at 5pm and quickly put both rods out tight to the island both on UCN SPICEZYME a few free baits and im sorted. that night the lake was alive with fish and a take was defiantly on the cards this was confirmed at 5:30 when a screamer on the right rod and a very hard fight resulted in a 18lb common photo on the matt and start packing up (oh how I love overnighters!!).

My next session was a 2nighter I got down the lake at 7pm and a quick set up was needed both rods out just before dark bivvy set up and im sorted. That night was clear and cold with a north easterly blowing and I wasn’t surprised atall when the swingers were still on the floor in the morning. The clear cold night turned into a clear scorching day and at 11am I could just make out the black shape of a carp then another and another, I soon grabbed the floater rod bucket of mixers and other bits and pieces. When I was round to the fish it was evident there was a lot on the top but they seemed very wary of floater baits after 6 hours 1 lost fish and a very useless floater angler I retreated with my tail between my legs. That night the conditions were a lot better than the previous night and I ended up with 2 runs that night 1 at 12midnight 1 at 4am the weights being 14lb and 19lb both on SPICEZYME. My next session is an overnighter tonight and I will keep you all posted.

pics to be added later when my computer does what its told

second entry

my next session on the bait was an overnighter on the 7th I was fishing the same lake as before but decided to fish a different spot to the baited spot. I got to the lake at about 6pm and walked strait round to a flooded swim that hasn’t been fished for a wile in the days leading up to then I had seen allot of fish in the snags. I set my rods up in the water and set the bivvy back just about on dry land. got everything sorted and was ready by about 7:30, the temperature was starting to drop quickly so I got in the sack and was soon in the land of nod. during the night i was awoken by 1 of my mates to photo a 25lb common, after that was done I got back into bed until first light. when I opened my eyes I saw my left hand hanger at the blank and the line was bow tight (panic stations!!!!) I just up I lift the rod feel a fain kick then it pulls back and the line falls slack! gutted the hook had pulled but at least the fish was ok. at that moment I watched the right rod pull round and line start to tick away as i pull into the fish i realise what had happened in the night both of the roller wheels on the alarms had froze! The fish I was connected to gave a very unimpressive fight and was soon engulfed in the net it was another common of about 14lb and was absolutely nailed about 2 inches back! Packing up time soon came and I was happy with the result 2 takes in minus conditions and only 2 other takes that night on the lake.

The next session was a week later and I was there for 2 nights I decided to go in the baited spot swim and got down the lake at 7pm. Both rods out on spicezyme with a kilo of free baits around each. At 12pm the left rod pulled tight and I was in a short fight lead to a odd looking carp being in the net. On closer inspection I realise it’s a orange ghost carp. pics done I put it back and go back to sleep still full of confidence of another take but as the sun wakes me that confidence disappears and hunger takes over. Bacon and sausages done I ring a couple of the locals of the lake and it appears that the orange ghost is very rarely caught and hasent seen the bank for a long time. The day passes without incident but at 12pm the next night I have another take and a mid double common is on the matt rod back out and back to sleep but not for long as the other rod is soon away and another common of the same size is on the matt. Nothing else occurs and I pack up a happy chappy having 3 fish in the end and with nothing else hooked on the lake I don’t think I did to bad.

I have now finished my time of the lake due to awkward bailiffs and the annoyance of little commons I am currently thinking of joining a big pit in surrey and I will keep you all posted on any results.

Start on the new water

I started my time on new forest water park on July the 3rd. new forest water park has 2 lakes a 19acre lake with a lot of carp in it I mean thousands! With 2 speed boats going round all day non stop with wakeboarding banana boats and all manner of other water craft. The other lake is the lake I was more interested in a 10 acre lake with a lot of weed 10 swims and some absolutely beautiful fish. My first session was an overnighter with no action but on the next day it looked very promising there was a group of fish on the top in front of a swim called the high swim. I pulted some mixers out and soon had a small group of fish taking confidently but the seagulls soon changed that and after a minute or 2 of dive-bombing the carp soon cleared off. So I decided to put out my other rods 1 on ucn spicezyme in a solid pva bag in a hole in the weed. And the other on a zig rig 5 inches under the surface. After several seagull pickups on the zig rig I soon started to ignore the alarm so when I had a few beeps I instantly looked for the white flying rats non around so I look back at the alarm it’s the other rod and the rod is bent double in the rests, im soon on it and playing my first carp from the water park a few powerful runs later and some hairy moments in the weed and iv got her in the net a very stocky dark fish on the scales it goes 25lb very happy.

I had 1 more fish that day an 18lb common off the top.

I have done a lot of sessions on the water park since joining so im not going to talk about every one the session im going to write about is the 9 night session I did the week just gone.
I got to the lake on Thursday at 5:30 and decided to go in the same swim I did my first night at the lake on, it is the end swim in the woods and covers about 80yards out and 30 yards wide with a snaggy bank to my right. The water in front was fairly weed free I had a weed bed from my margin to 20ft out then nothing till about 50 yards. I fished 2 rods on a small patch of gravel 45yards out baited with 10 kilo of hemp pigeon conditioner and maize with a small amount of ucn spicezyme mixed in and spicezyme on both hairs. The 3rd rod was fished to the snaggy bank about 20ft off on the edge of the weed. The night passed quietly but at 9:30 the next morning I had a belting take and after a good scrap I had a lovely mirror in the net on the scales it went 21lb photos done and kettle on I sit there still expecting another take I didn’t have to wait long because 30 mins later the other rod on the baited spot roared off after several weeding ups and 30 mins later I had another mirror in the net on the scaled it went 18lb photos done and another cuppa on no more runs came but I had a fish off the top later that day a lovely 22lb mirror from just 12ft from the bank. At 4pm I was back in the end swim with a spod rod firmly in my hand and 45 mins later im getting very into the spoding but have to stop because I have emptied the 10 kilo bucket. All rods back out on the same spots and the next morning I am awoken by a slow take slow powerful lunges had my heart racing and she soon had me weeded up under the tip after steady pressure she was moving and I had her in the net on the scales she went 27lb sacked up for a few minutes while I get my mate and I am soon holding her for the camera. I had 1 more run that morning on the baited spot a small common of about 18lb. Now my memory of the next 7 night is all over the place because 21 more fish came my way so I cant remember all of them I think I had about 14 fish off the top and 9 off the bottom with the fish on the bottom being mainly 20’s and the fish off the top being mainly doubles. But here are the pics of the 20’s landed.

thanks for reading and sorry for the lack of detail.
