Where will it end?Test curves on rods, folk seem to be using heavier and heavier TC each year. 2.25 / 2.5 used to be the norm now it seems 3lb is the norm with folk using 3.5lb on "normal" waters. Will it soon be the norm to see folk using 4lb TC rods?

tbh, i now think that test curve is not as important as the action of the rods, for example my rods are 3.25, which a couple of years ago, i would have thought was stupidly over gunned, but having a nice through action you still enjoy the fight, and not getting hook pulls left right and centre.
comparing it to a 'normal' carp rod of even 3lb with fast action, there is a lot of difference,
to a degree the tc is only a number and other factors need to be taken into account,
it seems that as carping has grown, and the reality of catching, 30, 40 and even 50s became apparent, and also venturing to larger lakes or wanting to cast further to explor new areas on lakes, the tc of rods has increase, but to a certain degree the growth on that side has slowed down, so in my opinion you wont see anything much higher, but this could be changing if a new material becomes used for rods,
i suppose that a cane or even glass rod at 3.5lb tc would be a right pain to handle, but with newer materials its not too bad,

got it right there rich.. with the modernt technology 3lb+ rods are very nice to use, are lovely to play fish on too. compared to a 10 year old 3lb rod im sure there will be a bit of difference.

Test curve is the amount of weight required to bend a rod tip to 90 degrees from the butt section and was a great way of determining a rod's power 10 or 20 years ago... it is largely immaterial now, and actually incorrect... as many rods today are sold on the same blank and described as anything frm 2.5 to 3 lb t/c... get over it and realise that if a rod feels good to you, it is OK.....

"or maybe a broom handle wrapped in carbon look tape? "
Someone would write a glowing review in the mags about it and many would buy it...
