ULTIMATE CARP NUTRITION

So it begins, after years of playing at the bait making game,i thought, enough is enough.Having made such inspiring friends along the way and having caught so many good fish from each and every lake we had fished,it seemed the only sensible approach to take to team up with the few that truely inspired me to approach to this highly competitive world of the carping bait game!

A plan evolved within my mind,to cut the crap of this  commercial, money making farce as i perceived it and bring to the average carper baits that fullfilled every possible criteria that an angler should need.Baits that should not only attract fish, but that should also nourish themas a payback for the stress that we as anglers put them through.

For 25years,i have researched the fundamental requirements of the specific needs of a carps diet for their consistant well being, utilising the major components for attraction and that of optimisising their intake of nutriants for maintaining a balance of wellbeing.

The answer unbeknown to me at the time was right on my doorstep in the shape of Pete Boughton,a long time fishing buddy whom had been ingrossed in the fundamentals of carp nutrition since the word dot!

This man,is the HOLY GRAIL when it comes to a carps nutritional requirements and what they need to sustain health and vitality.

A plan was formulated, and a mission statement was cast in tablets of stone,to provide ultimate carp nutrition to those anglers that wanted to catch, but whom also wanted to give their beloved carp something back in rerturn.

After numeruos nights of deliberation, myself and Pete, decided to launch this company which is know as U.C.N,firstly to show what can be achieved when quality ingredients are used within a bait, but also that anglers are paying way and above what they should be as in regards this highly money orientated market of the boilie market.

The rest i will prove to you all as to the power of ultimate carp nutrition, for we offer the best that is available to those that wish to give back, rather than catch at any cost

(gonna stop[ now cos ive jusy got to sleep)

Blogg to follow and i hope i have:nt bored you?

Having re-read that first post and realised how many spelling mistakes ive made i will slow down and concentrate for the next piece.......

The wheels were set in motion and test batches of bait were made up by myself and put through their paces. Some were given to friends to try, others were used by myself and fishing buddy simon (little legs).

We joined a lake formerly known as reeds,a 6 acre lake that contained some clever old fish that were not that keen on putting in an appearance on the bank.Talking to the regulars and bumping into some old faces from way back, which was a nice surprise, the general opinion was that these fish would show in a certain area just off deep water, but efforts to catch them were futile as they could not buy a bite!Now,6 fish a season from this little head banger of a lake was considered the average for a reasonable angler, now, not being in the least bit big headed, but i just could not see myself sitting on any lake in the country for 6 fish a year,so i watched and noted the movements of these fish and concluded that the fish that were being caught were being taken at the bottom of the marginal shelf, every anglers approach being virtually the same,a small amount of bait around each rod, tight lines cutting through the water, also, everyone bar a couple seemed to love a bait boat.Watching these fish was a real eye opener and it appeared to me that the anglers present didnt really know just what they had swimming in this lake?

Acrop of snaggy branches lay in between 2 swims right in the margins and to gain access and observe the fish that saught sanctuary within these snags, you first had to negate some rather nasty thorny bushes, which is probably the reason many of the anglers never knew of this carpy haven.Hours were spent watching these fish form the confines of my thorny hideaway and i was amazed at the size of these fish, especially 2,one mirror and one common, both i estimated around the lower forty mark. These 2 fish would spend a lot of time together and this was mentally logged for later use.

Now,from past exsperience, ive always known that if a lake contained the size of fish that were present in this one,and if it appeared that no one was putting in any substantial amount of bait, this was the tactic i was going to imploy. It transpired that a group of around 5 anglers were actually using a certain bait together and it was these chaps that were catching a few more than most but from what i could make out from observation, they were not putting it in in any quantity. So BING!(lightbulb above head) a plan was hatching,a plan that i just knew would catch me a few more than everyone else was catching and hopefully,a chance of one of the big girls?I couldn"t wait to start.....................
Mrmoo

As with any plan there always seems to be something there to stop you, that being that the club had some silly rule of no more than 2kg of bait per day.Hmmmmm,i had a good long think about that one,all of 5 seconds and came to the conclusion that if people were adhering to this, which, going by other lakes, they probably didnt, i would do a little swerve LOL

The lake has 2 rather fast flowing water inlets which are either side of a short peninsular which juts out about 3 meters, also,on one side there is a gully down the side and the biggest and only weedbed on the lake. Now,when something that obvious is smacking me hard in the face,i am not a man to hang around. The real shock, was that the swim i was goig to use, which was the last swim on that bank, was hardly ever fished

LARGE WEEDBED,OXYGENATED WATER,GULLY THAT THIS OXY WATER FLOWED INTO???????????

So now you can see my reasoning for attacking this spot, yes?

3 nights a week ,5 kg of what is now known as the SPICEZYME was secretly deposited into this gully, along with a few tigers, maples and maize just for good measure you understand and i watched the area intently and witneesed the fish increase daily that had found this new larder.Oh what joy i giggled to myself. For 2 weeks i religously kept this up,baiting at silly oclock, around midnight usually, untill  i could bare it no longer,i just had to have a go for these fish, the urge being too great now after watching them drift in and out of the gully, sending clouds of silt everywhere,i felt sure that others must surely have seen this as well,so before anyone else could pilage my hardwork, the first overnight tester was for the following evening,GOD,I WAS BUZZING WITH EXCITEMENT
Mrmoo

Now this is gonna end up like war and peace if i dont cut to the chase,so afater the baiting up period i proceeded to knock out 23 fish over a total of 6 overnighters but with all good things theres always some stroppy baliff thats 4ft tall that thinks he is 7ft

Suffice as to say he got told in no uncertain terms to jog on,but this fuelled his love for me even further and he made it his mission to be on me 24/7.BIG MISTAKE,for anyone that knows me well i can be for the main part a pretty civil chap, but push me over that edge and i aint so nice!
And push he did,and so did i,straight into the lake with the stroppy midget LOL

So id managed to catch a few good fish to 34lb,not quite the chunks id seen, but still all 20s and 2x30s,not bad going me thinks.

The winter was spent on my local water testing the enzyme to great effect taking no less than 49 fish to 35lb form december till febuary, doing only one overnighter a week, the fish were coming fast and furious,at times up to 8x20s a night,in the middle of winter!

Reports were coming in from all over reporting on the devestating effect of the new baits, the moonspice was doing a lot of damage abroad, the enzyme doing it over here and with Paul tant smashing every water on the moonfruit i was starting to get rather busy with orders so the fishing had to be put on hold and 250 pounds was wasted on a mid-kent ticket for that year such was the demand boohoo

Our local water was due to be taken back as a club water after being poachers paradise for me and a few friends when it was no longer under club rule and knowing the potential of fish,we just knew it was going to get busy, just how busy is silly. The blue lake is a 27 acre chalk pit,a stones throw from the new ebbsfleet international train station, the attraction of this place apart from being a 5 min walk from my house, are the original stock, some of which are over 40yrs old. This lake i would not class as difficult, but then again, its not an easy water.New members come, blank, then leave withtails between legs and let us hardy few to take the odd prize fromits water.

This season i was about to give the lake a PROPER BIT OF BAIT.Once again i chose the SPICEZYME,but a few of the other boys were starting to get on the enzyme and moonfruit,so the lake was seeing a hell of a lot of my baits and as they are all on virtually the same basemix, things were starting to look good for the coming season

Up to this point id say i was doing ok mate thanks!

Spain was calling, and they wanted me to produce a shelflife for the lazy gits,my reply,i just cant put into print, too many bleeps! It is both mine and petes opinion that you cant produce a true food bait with the high use of preserves needed to produce a shelflife bait and why would people use these baits knowing there are healthier alternatives?

My reply to Matt of fat angling was "tell them to buy some freezers".250 kilos of bait was driven the 2,500 mile round trip to tarrallubious, which is the mecca of spanish fishing, one hour of the portugese coast just to give matt and the spanish fieldtesters a good taste of the moonspice. This trip was a freebie to get our foot through the door in spain at a cost of around 3000 pounds  if you include the cost of the bait. For 3 days and nights i drove with 2 hours sleep in that time,i swear, never again will i drink another can of red bull  after consuming around 30 during that trip!

On reflection, the trip was a success, the lads having caught some stonking carp and barbel from the region in a short space of time.Money does not come into it when the bait was doing so well as i felt sure it would!
The moonspice is THE BAIT on the massive orrellana and the sierra brava and im sure this bait will be eventually responsible for a new world record carp in the near future

Anyway, back to the fishing. After a somewhat hectic start to the new season this year i eventually had a few days to spare to do some much needed dangling over at the blue lake.As previously mentioned,a few of the lads were having a bit of bait from me and were steadily applying it around various parts of the lake and were catching the odd carp on their way.2 lads were regularly introducing nash/mainline baits on quite a regular basis on the blue on one particular swim.they would bait for 3 weeks and fish one weekend a month and invariably their results were better than average, martin, one of the lads, taking fish to 38lb which was the warrior as we know it.Having limited time, but at the same time, having unlimited bait at my desposal,i started to employ the same tactics but on a greater scale, hoping that a superior quality bait would outshine what the essex boys were introducing.ONLY TIME WOULD TELL ?
Mrmoo

The time had come to wet a line, such was my excitement and anticipation of catching a few,id forgotten most of the important bits,ie,torch, landing net and stove, what a plonker! So,after securing my swim,a quick drive home rectified my forgetfullness and i charged back the half mile trip to the lake.Awarm S.E wind was blowing into one corner of the lake on my return and fish could be seen scouring the margins for Deans tasty balls!
So my first choice of swim was put on the back boiler and my gear, which was in the opposite corner of the lake was carted down to the newly chosen swim.Others had seen these fish and a congregation of carpers gathered in exspectation behind me as i flicked 2 baits out,one close to a set of marginal lillies, the other off the end of a tree where i had noticed the carp dipping out of sight on their patrol route.Ultimate "e" hookbaits were to be used on their maiden trip and i sat fidgeting nervously as the right hand tree rods bobbin continually rose and fell an inch or so with the neville giving out its accompanying bleeps to signal the fish activity from that area

20 minutes passd by and 3 fags smoked to the butt, when the boobin on the tree rod steadily rose and held its ground at the top before ripping from its temporary resting place.I was on it like a flash, struck, pumped twice and it was in the net!Everyone looked at me like i was mad and commented that they had never seen that before in their lives, the fish came straight to the top and within5 seconds was in the net.

What made this even more unbelievable was the fact it was one of the bigger commons in the lake and at 27lbs should have scrapped for england? So after much hand shaking and head shaking the lads left me to it,their laughter at the scene they had just witnessed could be heard for quite a while after! On reflection i had probably struck a bit harder than was needed and the fish was probably in shock cripes! which is why it came straight to the net, once in the net mind it then decided it would try and tow me across the lake via the landing net, such was its determination to escape.A bit late for that now mr carp i said to it!

First blood to the "e",and in only 20 mins was a promising start. But the chance of another was soon scuppered as simon decided in his infinate wisdom to hurl 4kg of 20mm baits on his side of the lillies, resulting in the carp doing a mass exoduse to somewhere a bit safer boohoo

Cracking blog so far mate

Just noticed you in carptalk with that lin aswell, stunner!!! (the fish cuckoo! )
Mrmoo

There is a tiny swim right along the end of the west bank which is the last swim before the out of bounds area tucked nicely away amoungst the bushes which never gets fished, only by me and some stunning captures have been had from there along the years, but the foilage was incredible this year such was the swims total neglect. So,i set about making the swim just barely fishable so as not to tempt others that it was now comfortable to fish. From here i could also keep a watchfull eye on the other swim i was baiting called the pipes swim which was directly opposite.

The end swim although being cramped offers access to the end patrol route of the only bar in the lake, well not exactly a bar,but an old track that they used to use when it was a working pit. This stopped about 30yrds out and left an area of smooth bottom approx 5mtrs square. The carp would come out from the cliffes and arc round and dip down on this spot and either take the inside gully route or start searching for naturals on the back of this bar, either route meant them starting at this point and this was the area i was about to start baiting and take full advantage of!
Mrmoo

At this point the plan changed a little as i had started to notice my spot on the opposite bank, namely the pipes swim was being totally unfished, which was a touch as i had been putting 3x8kg mixes in weekly at silly oclock past midnight for almost 3 weeks,Time to give it a go me thinks

So,a midweek wednesday overnighter was planned, moderate southwesterlies were forecast for the night which blew straight into my pitch, coupled with the first night of a new moon phase, you could say i was more than a little exspectant!
One thing i had not accounted for was the weed exsplosion in this swim,as it had never been this bad and it took me ages to find 3 presentable areas, which coincidently just happened to be where the main concentration of my baitings had taken place

The lines were slackened off and i prayed my 1 and a qaurter ounce leads would hold their ground in the ever increasing winds,as the nevilles gave out the occassional bleep. After about 10pm these bleeps were turning into liners and the backs of snotters could be seen everywhere.Oh blast, thought i (or words to that effect).11PM and one of the snotty critters impales itself on my carefully presented 'E' hookbaited rig and what with the increasing wind i decided not to recast that rod,so i had 2 remaining.12 Oclock and this aint no bream! as the carp rips off and buries itself in a weed bed just off the back of my spot, the line giving that light grating as i pulled with steady pressure at the same time walking back up the slope, then away she went kiting out into the middle of the lake on a 50yrd run, powerless to stop her i let it steam on untill eventually she headed straight for my bank which had mee winding faster than a mouse on a treadmill untill eventually i caught up with her directly beneath my feet, one scop,ta very much, get in me beauty!28lb common to moi!
Kettle on,tea made, new hook, new bait, back out to the spot,in the bag, check the fish after about 45 mins,(never can sleep with one sacked up)middle rod bleeps, must have knocked the rod thinks me,back into me pit, middle rod gives 2 more bleeps, bleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeep, one toner, round 2,here we go,same as before this fish does me in the back weedbed and once again i apply steady pressure and walk slowly backwards up the slope, she seems to come free but by the curve in the freespirit it seemed she had taken half the weed bed with her such was the effort to gain any line. The fish then decides to visit the nearside weed bed and much hauling later i can still see the fish is some way out,its slow heavy movement convincing me i had fish plus a monster weedbed on the end.20 mins later i scoop up my weed covered fish(not so)! i placed my hands in the net preparing to disentangle the fish from its weedy covering, only to find a single strand in the nets folds,at which point, panic stations as i release the arms from the pole and attempt to lift my prize to the unhooking mat,oh the strain, this fish was special for sure and with my head torch at hand, the beam shone across the flank of a fish that just blew me away, such was its enourmaty, its huge frame taking up every inch of my nash cradle, out with the phone and im dialling simon at 3.20am.My words i cannot print, but were on the lines of"bugger me mate, could you come down at this un earthly hour and do the honours with the camera old chap"?15 mins past and as the sun was just peaking over the horizon my little fishing buddy pushes through the gates, flsk of coffee in hand, with that look on his face, the one that reads,"what have you got then?"We both sat on the dew soaked grass, sipping coffee and chain smoking untill the time came to gather the sack containing what had surely to be  a new pb and possibly lake record.Simon retrieved her from the sack and did the honours with the scales, all the time his face showing a picture of dis belief."have i got me first english forty"? i ask,"you aint just got a forty mate says si,uve got a mid forty geezer,! With that, i launched myself headfirst into the lakes margin, screaming like a banshee, waking every angler on the lake at the same time scaring the crap out of every coot and moorhen on the lake! The crowds gathered, many handshakes received and many pictures were taken and a happy angler sat shivering more through excitement than cold,as the realisation had sunk in that i had my first english forty at 44lbs,a new pb and lake record from the lake that had given me my first double,20,30 and 25yrs on,my first english forty,HAPPY DAYS!!!!!!!!!!!!!

A couple fo nights later and still buzzing from my recent capture of the warrior i did another night in the pipes swim taking another 28lber but felt that something was not quite right with the area.I vetured further down the bank to a swim called bowaters and climbed the other pumphouse to get a view from above.Around half the lakes fish were in the upper layers sunning themselves and dark shapes could be seen drifting in and out of the margins taking full advantage of the freshwater snail explosion that was evident down this end of the lake. The area theywere visiting was to the left of the last swim, but was obscured by an overhanging tree close to the swim,so,when the last of the fish had moved out and were far enuf away,i started to snap branches from the underside of this tree, untill i had created a small tunnell just big enough to crouch beneath with a rod in hand and reach the previously unfishable area.Against my usuall approach,i put around 50 flattensd boilies around each of my 3 rods, the flattening causes much less disturbance when hitting the water and 2 rods were put about 3yds apart, one in around 5ft of water, the other at 11ft,just in case the cooling night temperature pushed them down deeper. The 3rd rod was cast just of a concrete platform which again was 11ft but was castable from the swim despite the hanging fronds of the tree to the left.

10pm and the liners start,11pm and these liners were getting silly, with the bobbins hitting the rod from their positions on the ground. The gnats were savage down this end and with the constant trips to the rods in shorts due to the suffocating heat,my legs were getting a hammering and were startijng to resemble a toffee crisp such were the lumps on them caused by the insects that night.1.00am and the deeper of the 2 marginal rods screams out and the bobbin does its familiar jig as a fish tears off out into the deeper water.Nothing i did seemed to slow this fish down and i knew iwas attached to one of the lakes commons such was the power.Eventually i land her and my suspicions were correct as the scales went round to 26lbs.Another soaking and a few more gnat bites later,i had completed my short journey under the tree to reposition the rod.Nursing my swollen legs some 30 mins later and the same rod is off again but this time i cant stop the beast as it flat rods me instantly and powers off to seek sacntuary over the back of the concrete slab where some corregated sheeting lies,i put as much pressure as i dared on the tackle to try and prevent the enevitable, but the knot above the leadcore gave and i sat on the ground with the line hanging limp and in shock of the sheer power of the fight i had just undergone,i prayed it was not one of the lakes lumps and again made the journey back under the tree, scattering another 30 flattened baits around the rod before jumping back in the bag for some much needed sleep.

3.30am and im scrambling down the steps to the rods as yet another fish steals my bait, this fish, like the first powers off and immediately i suspect a common on the other end, again, this proved to be the case and weighed in at 22lb.This was turning out to be one of those sessions where you just knew another fish was imminent,4.20 and the ouside rod does a merry dance but a rather unspectacular fight ensued, much to my relief and a mirrror of around 19lbs was landed and quietly slipped back to its watery home.5.15 and the last fish of the session gives me a slow steady game of tug and keeps deep for around 10mins then gulps the water, turning on the surface,a sure sign of tiredness and rolls into the net, torch on and i guess the weight at 30lb.The scales tell me i am ounces out at 30lb8oz.A very tired, but very happy angler returned home later that morning and slept the sleep of the dead

As with any individual that puts a string of fish together, the sheep begin to follow, trying to make out that fish were showing and they just had to fish your area!REALLY? Still, its not my lake, but hey,a swerve was in order,so on one particular night i set up in a swim that to my knowledge has never produced a fish,as darkness fell i set about my swerve with gusto.Every hour or so i would fake a take by pulling the line on one of the rods, with a bank stick i would thrash the water about to make it sound like a netting, then with much torch beam and camera flashing i would fake the trophy shots. My pretend tally for the overnighter was no less than 5x20s to 29lb.The swerve worked and the sheep formed an orderly que to fish the area, even doubling up in the swim that could barely take one angler cuckoo!

With their attention on this pretend productive area i set about my business on the other side of the lake, once again going back to my original swim to the side of gemmels as i had continually fed this swim, but had yet to wet a line in this swim.I received a phone call from "little legs" get down there my son, they are all over your area!Tackle was chucked into the van and the trip took my 2 minutes. One look at the area had me shaking like a leaf as i cast 3 single baits into the jaccuzzi of bubbles that was spewing up from the feeding orgy that was apparent on the bar.20 mins was all it took for the first bite and i soon had a 19lb common in the net,a quick look to make sure the fish was ok and back she goes, just as the middle rod rattles off! Now,im not sure what was happening but, both these fish came to the surface immediately after the strike and wallowed, rather than put up any sort of fight, very strange indeed

The second fish turned out to be a goldfish like specimen of 22lb and was one which i had not seen before, simon arrived to take the shots of this one and could not believe it was already my second.Si left me to it,muttering something under his breath which was something like"jammy b...stard".Envy,dont you love it! LOL

After another hour the activity in the swim had slowed,so a decision was made to introduce a couple of kilos of bait.Rob turned up and we chatted about the lakes inhabitants and we got onto a fish known as the linear and both agreed that it was due a show on the bank. This fish was last out in jan 2006 to my rods and i struck a rather cocky bet up with Rob that i would be the next to capture this fish and that it would come from this swim.At that moment,we both noticed some serious fizzing at the back of the bar directly over my left hand rod,we exchanged a knowing smile and 30 seconds later that rod ripped off!Such was the speed of this take,i did not disengage the baitrunner yet merely cupped the spool and let the rod take on its fighting curve.Slow, deep powerfull runs were the order off this fight and i knew i had one of 3 fish on the end of my line.A flash of scales as the fish turned in the margins had both me and rob gobsmacked! The linear was the fish i was attached to and my adrenalin had me shaking like a leaf.A few pings and lunges later and rob finally dipped the net and in she went,we both just fell about laughing having just made the bet abou this fish, rob suggested i do the lottery that night

The scales showed 36lb8oz,a pound up from mt last capture nearly 2 and a half years previous.A quick trip home to recharge my phone and grab some more bait and tell of my catch on the forums and iwas back in the swim recasting my rods to the hotspots within this swim as i was sure of some more action during the hours of darkness. My thoughts were correct on this occassion, taking mirrors of 27 and 28lb respectivelly during the night bringing my tally to 5 for the session of 16hrs.I will never forget this session simply due to the bet i had struck with Rob minutes before its capture, needless to say i didnt scoop the lottery that night,at least not in cash, but the fish more than made up for that!

That last hit was early august and being generally quite a poor month for carp i decided on just the odd overnighter, just to see how the baited areas were responding.3 blank nights later on the pipes swim and im scratching my head lol.Feeling around with a marker at the end of the 3rd session i snagged on something that would not allow me a retrieve,so i walked the rod along the point to get a pull from the otherside and slowly things started moving and i noticed i was attached to line.Moments later i witnessed the probable cause of inactivity over the last few sessions as the rotting carcuss of a dead coot attached to one of my old rigs comes towards me,oh the stench

Now,im not sure how fish react to rotting birds but at least i had a half reasonable explanation as to no captures, not even the bream, which considering the amount of bait that i had put in was unheard of.So with the rotting bird removed i rested the swim for a further week and then slowly started to introduce a few kilos again. An overnighter on friday saw me have 4 bream bites, although not quite what i was after, very incouraging to know that fish were once again feeding in the area

3 kilos were put in this morning as the fish could be seen holding up in the cliffes and would probably stay there untill the wind turned SE or southerlie to bring them back out again,so i thought rather than fish i would keep the area topped up.Now about an hour ago littlelegs phoned to say that one of our mates had just set up in the pipes, not impressed by this i started to get a bit shirty, but thought it would be a good gauge as to whether i had made the correct choice not to fish but to bait?I shall find out in the morning no doubt. We are now up to date with events up to this point,so anything else that appears is pretty much straight off the press so will keep you informed. Thanks for reading and good luck people

Stay tuned lads, after a bout of severe ill health i have not managed any fishing for months but will be resuming very shortly, health wise i am knocking back the vino and the chocca mochas are going down a treat,so it looks like the old body is tolerating its nightly doses of poison with no ill effects!!!!!!!!!

The COWELL IS BACK!!!!!!!!!! cuckoo!

good stuff mate , get the show back on the road
Mrmoo

And so,after a bout of ill health,a decision was made to fish a lake called Brooklands which is at the back of the mid-kent larkfield complex. The choice was made purely to get my teeth into a new water and hopefully get my foot in the door for the big lake known to many as ALDERS.Toward the end of the 2008-2009 season i walked Brooklands banks, making mental notes of captures, which were few and potential hotspots,a plan was then formulated and the first steps of this were taken in the shape of a liberal sprinkle of U.C.N bait, which one will remain a bit hush hush as im just starting to fish so i hope you can appreciate that this comes hot off the bank!!!!

foolishly i had decided to fish the easter weekend or rather,i blagged a day off b4 the rush and managed to get to the lake on the wednesday evening.A strong south westerly had been pushing into one of the areas i had been introducing bait and as i drove through the lakes gates i noticed the swim i favoured was free!Happy days!NOT!

T he swim in question is situated in the north/north east corner and commands quite a large area of water, but,i never imagined i would be hemmed in either side for 3 days and nights, the anglers lines either side of me obstructing the carps route into my carefully primed area.As most know my style, around 15kg of bait was put out in anticipation of the slaughter that was exspected!Well i sat their for the 3 days pulling my hair out as every swim on the lake bar one which was up the far end of the lake was occupied, the fish visibly crashing way out in the middle out of the way of the rows of lines that must have stood out like ropes in the gin clear water.

Second night passed and a crowd gathered on the opposite bank,so being quick on the uptake it dawned on me that something rather special had been caught by the captor.Reports drifted round the lake that a common of 40lb 12ozs had made an appearance to a fella called Dan who had fished right through the winter and had had his efforts rewarded by this fine capture.A few other fish were caught around the lake, most of which were the stockies weighing around the upper double bracket, which considering their weight on introduction, most have put on 7-8lb in a year!

And so i waited, and waited, the sw wind still piling into me but not a sign of a carp! I was trapped,my only option was either home or sit it out and seeing as this was my first session since last August, that was my decision all this time the fish continued to rub our noses in it by doing their dolphin display way out into the abyss! cuckoo!
Mac

Glad you're better again Dean, good luck for the future in both pleasure and business

Thanks Mac........

Saturday arrived and with it a new wind which was pushing right into the only vacant swim on the south bank and with its arrival a few anglers had had enuf and were packing away to return home???

I watched the water intently for any tell tale signs of the carps journey to the windward end at the same time a move was made to the next swim up from me which would give me a chance to hit the fish way out in the middle. But the move did nothing to improve my chances and i was paceing up and down full of indecision untill eventually i could take it no more,i hurriedly reeled in and got in the motor and drove to the other end of the lake to take a look.the sight of a huge dark common sliding out and silently slipping back in was enuf to kick start me into move mode as the only fish that dark was a common reputably known to be around mid 40s so the possibility of a pb common was too much to take in as i raced to get my gear and get there as quick as possible!!

Whilst packing i noticed that the fish way out were starting to follow the wind which made me panic and the rods were crammed into the car with the rest of the tackle dumped unceremoniously in with them and i drove the long trip round praying that no one had seen the fish id seen?Luck was on my side and i arrived, unpacked and made 3 trips to the new swim, sweating and heaving as the last bits were delivered to the swim!

BOSH! BOSH! BOSH! 3 shows within a minute just 20 yards out had me all a pickle and i quickly tied up a new dynamite stick and retied a new pop up and flicked it out to where the fish were showing and in the same area as the big common was seen earlier.I saw at least 10 more shows whilst setting up the second rod when beeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeep,im away in under 2 minutes.............
Mac

Dean you "beep" you can't leave us like that
Mrmoo

...............i dropped the rod i was preparing to the ground and lifted into the fish,my heart sank as on contact,i knew in my heart that it was not the big common that i had seen earlier.but, non the less it was my first carp take from the water which gave me a spirited 10 minute fight and turned out to be one of the lakes stockies,a mirror of around 15lbs.The fish was slipped back and the same rod rebaited and cast to the same rod,the other 2 soon followed to their respective chosen areas, which in hindsight i should have left for a while as the shows stopped for a while and not a fish was seen untill the onset of darkness. My spirits begin to rise as the fish once again put on a display until around midnight i retired to the bivvy for some much needed sleep!!

2.00 am and the same rods away again, this fish fought slightly deeper than the last and a 17lb common was safely landed, rod out, back to bed a happy carper!!! 5.am the middle rodbleeps then stops?i hover over it and notice the rod top knocking, the strike meeting with some thing solid. This fish went everywhere and kept shaking its head, which made me think it had been hooked sometime earlier,5 minutes later another common of around 13lbs was mine, agood start to my new season,3 fish late in the session, but the top capture of fish that week made those previous 3 nights stuck in my original swim seem that wee bit more bearable.........

Just done my second weekedn on the UCN bait
one lake tricky took fish to just under 3o common
this weekend done overnighter or notoriously hard pit took another one just under 30 common,
my mate is down there now just checked my margin spot and has been completely cleened, cant say the pits name but not a great number of carp to the size of water and proper home grown history fish which to catch one without the aid of a boat has got me buzzing so thanks again dean

intresting point!!!!!!

Took the hoookers that dean had give me, before every other hook bait on the spot.
same happened to my friend who nicked couple of hoookers watched fish in the margin of a canal same thing happened, they bloody love em
