Smoking Ban!

With the smoking ban in all pubs and clubs and the work place been around now for over a year.
Do you think the ban was a good idea?
Do you think the ban has effected you in anyway.
If you don’t mine please say if you are a smoker or not.

I think the ban was a good idea, iv never been a smoker and hated coming back from a night out smelling of smoke.
I can remember eating out just before the ban, and I didn’t notice the smoke that much in this very open plan pub.
It was only after the ban going back to the same pub a few weeks later, and I was shocked to notice how much fresher and cleaner the pub was, I think it just proves how much we got to thinking that smell was the norm.

any thought?

I am a smoker, and i have mixed opinions really, i began to enjoy the smell, i found it kind of homely in a way,

But i do think it was quite a good idea to an extent, but at the same time, i believe it took away some of the smokers freedom, but at the same time, i gave some freedom back to the non smokers....so i dont know really, im confused.....

There are some places i would rather smoke inside, rather than out, but otherwise it doesnt really bother me too much, but some places really need to get the correct facilities to cater for smokers, but thats my opinion again

Id have liked for publicans to have the choice smoking or non-smoking, but then it’s the rights of the staff ?

I wonder which why publicans have gone if they had a choice to have a smoking or non-smoking pub?

Do anyone know…  if you own your own company and work on your own, is it Legal or not to smoke when driving your works van?  LOL

NOSEY WIFE

i smoke but dont go out so it dosent matter or bother me
steptoe the gypsy

Margin Master

I am an ex smoker but when I go out and have a drink I have the occaisional social ciggy (so nice with a drink)
I think the smoking ban has ruined the pub/club scene, half the people in these places spend half of the night outside.
At pubs/clubs now when places used to be packed and everyone was on top of each other socialising, places are only half full with the other half outside smoking, the atmosphere's never seems to be as good now.
Also not to mention that now with the smoking ban you can smell everyones farts, and those occasisional dirty buggers who dont know how to keep themselves clean!
I think smoking should be banned in restaurants, and in pubs when food is being served, but as for other pubs and clubs it should be allowed.
I read in the paper that a lot of pubs now are suffering badly since the smoking ban has been bought in, what about their livelyhood?
We live in an increasingly namby pamby health and safety obssesed society, which in turn makes are lives more hassle and more dull.

One of the big problems now is insurance costs going sky-high cos every man and his dog wants to sue anything and every one?   cuckoo!
JAFFA

Two of my life long friends who both owned pubs have gone bankrupt since the smoking ban was introduced. Both blame the ban.

kind regards Jeff
NOSEY WIFE

Jeff thats sad to hear but i do know someone in the same situation as well and its been there dream so sad to hear
Mac

Jeff I'd argue it's totally down to the smoking ban. Surely the price of a pint has to play a part, I'm paying £2.95 for a pint of Guinness my way and can get 2 cases of lager/cider at the supermarket for £16 so the supermarkets must shoulder some of the blame.

The cost of living is getting more and more expensive and so people just cannot afford to go out like they did so something has to give......in a lot of cases people now drink at home rather than go to the pub
Ghost

Id agree with Mac, a lot of my friends that don’t smoke but are (was once) heavy drinkers, go on all the time about the difference in the price from pub to supermarket.
Now they buy cans and go around each others houses..
£5 by me will by you 8 cans!! How can a pub keep up with that?
