sixth sensewhat do you think ????
do some carper`s have a SIXTH SENSE.
I'm not talking watercraft, as we can all learn these skill`s in time. but some just seem to know when it`s going to happen for them. and usually it does time and time again.
your thought`s ?????

If you do T'ai Chi long enough you develope a peripheral awareness, which can be usefull if some mugger is trying to creap up on you etc.
Quite often I have turned up at a lake and know I won't catch anything so I go elsewhere. Saving a bit of money.
And other times I know nowhere will fish so I don't bother!

The other weekend I had a feeling that if I went to my favorite spot down the river, fish would be there and ill have one.
I asked the missus what time dinner would be ready she told me and I replied 'Im just going to pop down the river for a couple of hours its one of those days that ill have something strait away, ive got that feeling'
So I went down the river cast out set the rod up in the rests, started to tidy up my gear and off it went!, resulting in a nice mirror
Sometimes you just know

Do you think there's anything in the guys that say they can smell Carp...When they are in an area...

not sure about smell but yes i do believe in a sixth sense type thing, whether its something learned through the effect of conditions on your subconscious or whatever I dont know....but some people sense things.

to be honest i think sixth snse is just something that has come about , just to add that bit of mystique to some of the more successfull anglers ,
what i do beleave though , is some people are more in tune with there natural hunting instincts , that can be seen across the whole animal kingdom , you will allways get better hunters in any species .

it is more likely to be that they spend a lot of time on the bank. So they will be used to what they see, and anything that is out of place etc will be a lot easier to spot, they will be able to reconise the signs fish are in the area etc,
but smelling it, sounds a bit weird, but reading people like richie macs book, he says about it, and its hard to understand if you havent experianced it so i have no reason to doubt it really

^ thats more conditioned/learned behaviour though Rich, rather than a sense
Its the same with anything, the more you do it, the better you become
The more you spend time looking at the water etc, the better you will become at spotting things out of place

Good question kips...
Some good replies too guys.
IMO, it's clear that no matter what attribute you care to consider, there are distinct differences in levels of ability. This isn't just specific to humans, and as Paul said, it ranges across all species.
As Paul will no doubt confirm from his similar experiences... having kept and worked hunting dogs and ferrets from my youth until recent years, every single dog or ferret has possessed different levels, and attributes of hunting ability.
Some, not many, do indeed seem to possess a 6th sense, and that fact is exactly what sets them apart, and makes some far better than others. Often, they are more successful simply because of that factor, but obviously other attributes docan contribute also.
Some are more athletic, some more intelligent, some better at learning their craft etc, and without doubt, there is something else which is much less tangible, a definite sense that is only present in a very few.
To answer the question in short, imo, the 6th sense - a finely tuned hunting instinct - exists without doubt whatsoever.
