Secret Squirrels

Are you a SS?

Do you think it's right for folk to be a little secret or should they try and help others?

yes ,and proud of it
helping people is good , depending what they want helping with imo , if they want swim details , bait etc   handed on a plate without working , then no , get lost your lazy buggers  LOL  LOL

Sometimes in this day and age you have to be a bit SS, because if your not, chances are some tool will try to catch off the back of your work.
I may ask other anglers about fish stocks, whats been caught, how busy the lakes been, and if anyone has been fishing in a certain swim.
I never ever ask what someones using, bait, rigs etc and I never ask where abouts their fishing, I always do my own thing and if that means I struggle, then so be it ill get there in the end.
As for giving other people advice if they ask what bait im on ill reply 'my own bait', if they ask what rig im using ill tell them or maybe even show them, if they ask where my spots are, I might tell them vagueley I might not, it depends if I think their going to poach them!

Say nothing , do your own homework !!!

Mates - yes, Strangers - no....Hard venue - No(unless going-in on baits and effort), Easy venue - yes...Think if your doing all the work why should others ride it. Costs money, time and effort for fishing success...so why dish it out to the lazy brigade.

to be honest, i will give away some information, and i will only ask for the information that i would give,

for instance, if its info like fish weights, where they have been caught on past captures etc, fine, but if they want details on where you last baited up etc, sod em, if they cant be bothered to work at it and find it out...

its all part of the capture finding your own information...

another thing is how they approach you, if they are a polite bloke, and have a bit of a chat, rather than walking into the swim, and just saying, where you fishing what you caught...

I dont tell strangers, but might tell my mates where i am baiting

If i do its so that they explicitly know that i am baiting a spot....just stops people from starting to bait it aswell etc...luckily a few people round here are sound and wont jump on your spots

Depends who is asking I think we can all work out if you should tell somone or not.  Unfortunatly we dont get it rite all the time as I descovered  back in March this year.

I can't tell you if I'm a secret squirrel... I've got to keep it on the down low

everyones got different opinions on what is too far in the contex of asking questions, however i dont really let much info out if i dont know them, but if there mates ill tell them anything, due to me knowing they would tell me the same things...eg if i saw fish in one part of the lake and i was packing up then i'd tell him about it. why not its not life or death. i just love it when anglers pretend to be sc but really are crap anglers!
