I'm trying to think of a single player who has attained the accolade of being widely recognised as the worlds finest player who hasn't also been widely respected as a person.... I do hope that the diving slime-bucket Ronaldo isn't the first!

Disagree Jeff, extremely talented and probably one of the best in the world at the moment but BEST EVER.........no way.

I can't remember seeing any vids of Best diving (I know you say he was better) what about Maradona, Pele, Cruyff none of these were seen rolling around looking for a free kick or penalty.

I do realise the game has changed so much from the players I have mentioned but at times the players are more like actors in conning the ref

He is without doubt a talent Jeff but that's only really been this season and a large proportion of the last one. He'll win player of the year and maybe even European player of the year if those elite gits do actually look at English based players that closely anymore but best the planet's ever seen..... oh dear mate, you been watching his "Best Of" DVD too much 8)

Must agree with most ronaldo is probably the best player in the world with his skill and imagination within the game but he is going to be disliked from a neural ground with all the diving inside the box as Steve says its blatant cheating.If he had a red card for blatant diving you would be lucky to see him on the pitch for no more than 25 games a season.

My personal view is he would never be the best of all time just because of the improvements within the game.
I don't believe he would have the same skill level with a ball from the 60s and 70s which turned into a rolling sponge when wet.
The pitches are manequred these days just watch premier players reactions when ball has a little bobble,how many time have you heard a premiership manager moan about a pitch,come on i still remember watching matches filmed from the 60s the goal area looked like a mud hole.

The players of today cant be compared to the 60s and 70s who had to play a contact game with the elements against them.

True Jimbob, which is a great shame because although I hate him, he is a rare talent... he is his own worst enemy, though, so i don't pity him!

The problem here is most of the top players are cheats, not just Ronaldo

They would much rather get a free kick just outside the box than have a proper go at goal.

How many times do we see players go down as if they had been shot by a sniper, play stops trainer comes on and hes fit as a fiddle

Defenders obstructiing the ball out of play for goal kicks. If it was anywhere else on the pitch a free kick would be given.

The hard part about Ronaldo is its so obvious the guy is talented byond belief, hes a big lad too and so doesn't need the cheating side of his game. cripes!

that was quite good and changed my opinion of him...question, does he still dive and 'cheat', only i get the impression he used to do it but has since grown up a bit???

Absolutely, Matt... the diving and cheating is still very much a part of his game... there's not a game that passes where he doesn't have at least a couple of dives in the penalty area m8
