"Golden Balls" that's what Chad said to me when I asked him to take my latest picture
Did another session on the river last night, arrived a little later than usual but was soon set up in my chosen swim. After about an hour I'm into a fish and to be honest with the fight I thought it was a small barbel but in came another PB in the shape of this 5lb 8oz Chub
Not the desired species but when these things are over 4 1/2lb they are pretty impressive, and being my 1st 5lber it was very welcome
Nothing else for me except for the bats flying into my line regularily making me think I was having a few knocks etc

Just done a short morning session on the river, arrived at the river for 5am and was soon set up in my swim. 1st cast and I was getting the tap tap tap which I assume were Chub, 2nd cast and before I put the rod on the rest it's looping over......fish on It did it best to get in some nearside snags but was soon in the net
Coming in at 5lb 12oz a new PB chub for me
Recast and nothing for about an hour then the tap tap tap started again and I was soon in, resulting in another Chub at around the 3 1/2lb mark Pack up at 9am after an extremly enjoyable 4 hrs fishing

Did the 1st session on the river for quite a while yesterday evening. Arrived at the river and chose a swim I had fished before, confidence was high and I was soon set up. The river was running through heavily and about a ft to 18" higher than normal. I decided to have a trial cast with the feeder and it wouldn't hold bottom so a change to a heavier feeder was in order, this too wouldn't hold (casting to the far side) so I put a 3oz lead, this was just holding holding and any little knock moved it downstream So on went a 4oz lead which did hold but I wasn't happy using that so decided to move to a slower paced swim. I was soon set up and a lot happier, although the confidence had taken a knock due to me fishing a swim for convenience rather than where I thought the fish would be Nightfall came I apart from the odd knock from bats I hadn't had a touch Talking to Chad on the walkie talkie and he was having the same results as me, 10pm and it seems to be getting lighter (it was possible to put bait on without the headlight ) Not long later I'm starting to think about calling it a day and the rod loops over...........fish on First thoughts with the take it was a barbel but as soon as I felt the fish I knew it was a chub It was soon in the landing net and looked like a new PB Weighing in at 5lb on the nose it wasn't a pb but a very welcome visitor to the bank all the same Thanks to Chad for his "Lichfield"
Once held the fish felt empty underneath so maybe another day it would've been a pb but PB's are everything, with that we packed the gear and went home

After blanking on my syndi lake yesterday and getting some texts off a mate who was doing well on the river I thought it about time I visited the river again. Pulling into the yard about 7.45 I was the only car there Gear loaded onto my back and off across the fields, swim chosen I'm soon set up and full of anticipation 3rd cast and I get a tap tap tap on the rod and it loops over and it's fish on I knew instantly it wasn't a barbel and soon had a chub making it's way into my landing net, once there I thought "flippin hell it's a 6lber" or words to that effect On the scales it went to 5lb 10oz which is a new PB so wasn't too disappointed it wasn't a bertie
Recast and nothing for the next hour so I decide to try the proven method of enticing a bite(ALL anglers will have done this ). I got my flask out, cup on knee and pour a coffee, as it's pouring a 3ft twitch on the rod signals a take, flask goes one way, coffee goes the other and I'm in again but alas it wasn't to be, by the time I had gained control of the rod the fish has managed to get under some bankside undergrowth and I had to pull for a break Luckily the rig in it's entirity came back but no fish Was it a Bertie? I'll never know but want to think it was a 15lber Recast and nothing again for another 1/2 hour or so and then I'm in again, another Chub coming in at 5lb 40z next cast winkle this fella out
A minnow, the hook was nearly as big as him
Another hour and I decide on a move, set up in my new swim and it's a fish on 1st cast Yet another chub coming at 5lb8oz, 3 5lbers can't complain I thought to myself
About 15minutes later the rod loops over again and guess what came in? Yep another 5lb chub Recast the rod and it's not even in the rest and it's looping over It can't be another 5lber I think to myself and once on the scales I'm proven wrong, another 5lber but weighing in at 5lb 12oz it ups the PB too
It's now getting on a bit and I'm thinking of packing up when the rod starts tap tap tap but no proper take, after the 10th or 11th tap tap tap I decide to hit it and another fish on, the fight was weird and I didn't have a clue what it was until this appeared
trout even likes the home mades
With that I pack up and come home a happy chappy.
5 x 5lb chub and a bonus trout, no berties but mustn't grumble
Apologies for the poor quality of pics but the cameraman was at home looking after his daughter He should get his priorities right

Chub chub and chub, thats what I caught today
Arrived at the river about 7.15 and found it to be about normal level but running through a little stronger than normal. Swim chosen and I'm soon fishing and caught the last 30 mins of Keith Arthurs Fishermans Blues Nothing for over an hour so decide to move swims, cast out and sat back awaiting that 3ft twitch. Chad comes on the walkie talkie to say he's had a fish so reel in and do the piccys for him then back to my swim. Not too long later I'm into my 1st fish of the day, a chub coming in at 5lb 8oz
I think it's a recapture from the day I had the 5 x 5lbers due to the orange mark on it's flank (You can just see it above my 2nd finger on right hand)
Recast and the rod isn't even on the rest before it's off I mustve virtually hit it on the head, but another chub comes in at 4lb 12oz, recast and again I hardly had time to settle and I'm into another chub this time weighing in at 4lb on the nose. 3 fish in about 20 minutes and apart from that I never saw any signs of anything else, packed up about 12.30 just as it was starting to rain.
