Mags

I assume we've all read a few carp mags through the years but have you learnt anything from them?

If so what and does it still help you today?

There has been articles which say"use this rig and you'll catch" or "stick this boilie on and you'll catch"

Have you ever gone out and bought that rig or bait just on what it says in a mag?

when i first started carping, i grabbed any information with both hand`s no matter where it come from so yes what was written in the angling mag`s was taken on board and used in my own angling. and yes i learned allot. as a young carper i would look to the carper`s that were writing and doing the bizz. but as time goes by and your experience`s deepen you start to teach and learn your self, you never forget what you have learned from other`s but you use the knowledge in a different way and think for your self.

i love reading story`s of carping adventure`s now and even from these you are still learning something, but i make my own mind up were rig`s and bait are concerned.

My story is the same as BK word for word….  Cannot say anything more or different!!

ever since i learnt the basics i just took to the books, terry hearn's book , big carp and carp-addict. theyr nice as they follow peoples angling instead of just shitty articles on 'margin fishing with blah blah'

im going off at a  tangent but does anyone else think its a  disgrace that carp-talk week in week out put dirty great foreign fish on the cover, then u look in the southern review and theres a small picture of the baby orange... that was an example and was the last time i baught a carp-talk

i have brought all of them at sometime or another................

there of some that are the same week in week out, small pineapple pop-up and small bag of pellets, dont get me wrong these mags are a gret help to new comers to our sport.

there is a few mags that i will still buy, but i dont buy these religously anymore. and things like  change of editor can have a big effect on the calibre of a mag, be it looks or content.

forums are a far greater mine of knowledge and very much more interactive, good for anglers of all standards.  this is where mag's fail in my honest opinion. they re-run things and run out of ideas and fill them full of adverts, probably so much so that they could give the mags away and still make a profit.

i used to buy angling mags but i don't no more, same old stuff just a different author

i teach my self and learn from friends, i prefer a good novel theses days.
