lureing onnow the colder weather is on its way its time to dust of the lure tackle, and have a go for some pike and, perch and maybe the odd chub to.
i wll still be carping though the winter but i will spend any spare time i can lure fishing on the local canals and rivers.
i find its a great way to break up the winter months when carping can be a bit slow at times. its a great way of geting a bend in your rod and you dont have to put hours and hours of time in to have fun, and catch a few fish.
is any one else gona have a go?

i use 30cm(12inch) traces in 25lb breaking strain, as for lures there are so many rob i could spend all night listing them.
but heres a a few to get you started.
shakespear BIG S a great plug that will catch pike any where.
rapala magnum 11cm long and will dive to 10 or 11 feet
rapala shad rap sr9 another deep diver but can be worked shallow if retreved slow.
conrad salmon this is a great lure and i have them in just about all colours 12cm long weight 15g will dive to around 3 feet, i have had hundreds of pike on these.

Long nose pliers best for the thicker gauge wire of the lure hooks. Lures i reccomend the soft plastic lures like the fox chubby shads or the strom lures. Cant beat a mepps spinner either!

Yeah, pliers are much better for lures, forceps are ok for deadbaiting traces though as the hooks are generally thinner/smaller.
I live the Storm Soft Plastics, but one of my favourite lures are the Abu Tormentor or Terminator plugs. Brilliant lures for canal work, which is what i mainly do.

all you need for a days lure fishing.
i dont take a net as it`s just something else to carry, i land me pike with the help of a glove, not in the pic as it was in me pocket.
the bag holds all me lure`s and spinners and spare wire trace`s, camera, phone, licence`s and backy tin
traveling light is what it`s all about, with nothing but a bag and a rod you can cover a lot of water in a day
