jacob's-stalking adventuressaturday just gone i decided to go to my local runs water wich is very heavily fished but ive seen pictures and heard people talking about a few monsters in there,so decided to give it a go.I got to the lake at approx 8:30 ish, unloaded the car and went to look at the lake ,I had loads of choices on different swims to fish,but i decided to fish opposite the island .I arrived at my swim after lugging all my tackle for a mile.Had a look around and there was only 2 other people on the lake.So i got set-up decided ,to fish just a normal hair-rig with some fake sweetcorn popped up off the bottom to try and stop the little fish from getting at it .Baited up a little gully on the island with some sweetcorn then cast my rig into it .It landed exactly were i wanted it to land .So left it there,put my rod down and flicked the bait runner on,.
3 hours later and i was starting to get a bit weary of the fake corn,why hadnt it worked?why hadnt i had any beeps on the alarm so decided to reel in ,the rig was fine the corn popped up beautifully off the bottom,so decided to try another bait ,but this time close in in the margins,fed the swim with some corn once again and as mac suggested to me to try cheese i did,nice big lump of it on the hair flicked it outo the spot and once again put the rod on the rest flicked the bait runner on and turned the alarm on.approx 1 hour later nothing was happening ,couldnt see no movement in the swim so was thinking what was i doing wrong,reeled that rod in put bacon grill on flicked it out once again to the spot same procedure,30 mins later or so i thought so there not on the bottom they must be up in mid watter,so de-tackled my rods loaded my rucksack and moved rite down to the bottom of the lake,wich i new is a good little swim,this time decided to set-up my little 7ft rod up with just a hook and a baitband.Filled my pockets up with dog biscuits grabbed my net and mat and walked round to this little swim.As i got there i threw out a handful of dog biscuits ,after a while they started taking them confidently so i drew them closer and closer in so that they were within distance of me being able to flick my dog bicuit to them.i dropped a handfull rite under my feet literually and could see the carp plain coming up for the mixers so i lowered my biscuit into place ,hid behind a tree and watched them feed ,as i saw a carp jump to the left of me decided to move my hookbait as i moved it a huge mouth came up for my mixer by this time the biscuit was in the air so i dropped it straight back down on top of its mouth and bang down it went ,my clutch on my reel just gave out a scream and off the line went it was stripping the line of the reel,so i moved away from the tree onto a platform wich i could play the fish easier from ,after about 10 minutes it started to come closer in so jumped down onto the bank grabbed my net and went in because of all of the rocks,not wanting to damage the fish,netted the fish and weighed it and it pulled the scales round to 7lb 5oz ,put that one back into the water and let it go.Then with the same procedures i hooked another 7 carp biggest one was 11lb,the place shut at 6:30 so i packed up and went home a happy customer.
