Not my cuppa tea, will be staying in the colne valley, plenty of big kippers for me to catch over here...
Would like to go on a tour of the vineyards in Bordeaux though, bet that’s good.

If I go France it'll only be to know what it's like (otherwise commenting on something you have never even done makes you a bit of a nob )
It really doesn't appeal to me... I've seen Noddy and Big Ears go to France and bag out 40lbers... It's hardly sport on some lakes
In Carpwolligy a few months back the korda boys went to Dream lakes and had 2 40's in the net next to eachother and they caught like 10 40's - Can't catch fish in the UK in winter? Head to France

I get really hung up on some of this Maple. By default, ANY water fished that you have to pay for, is a comercial water. From Redmire to Dream lakes and everything in between, if you have to pay, then its comercial!
But we both know there is a million miles of difference between paying to fish Dream lakes(which I would not) and say the likes of Big Rons lake, which is a syndicate, eithically stocked and eithcally run.
Are the Cemex lakes nothing more than comercial waters? Are Linners waters nothing more than over stocked puddles? Is Redmire pool to be mentioned in the same breath as Darenth or Strawberry Fields, just because a fee is charged?
Is the Thames a true blue water full of ONLY English carp? Does the river Lot ONLY hold carp that were born within its banks? No escapees or renagades?
Not having a pop buddy, but i would love to know where the "exact" line is? I know where my morals are buddy, but it is a confusing subject, as I am sure you will agree
kind regards Jeff

A bit off topic here but for me (and Chad) our week in France is a bit of 2 things
Fishing, thats the main thing we go. We know the lake has bigger fish than we are used to, thats one of the reasons we go. But it's 1 week a year we save up for etc Where we work we get 5 days floating holiday to have when we want, the rest is fixed. We also have other commitments (as others do too) so that 1 week we book we want it to be special and to be virtually guarenteed to catch. We do drive and survive, and this is the other big thing to us. I wouldnt want to go for an all inclusive package personally but understand folk who do
Everyday about 11/12 o'clock we go into the local town, find the butchers etc and make prats of ourselves trying to buy some meat for our tea. We then go and find a bar and have a couple of beers with the locals, this is one of the highlights of each day. So whilst we dont go fishing into the wilderness and do "proper" France whatever that is nowadays we do look forward to it

jeff if you was so sure , then you would not have so many doubts as to where /what a commercial water is , thats not a dig m8 , but your looking at it in black and white , so in that context , yes every single water you have to pay some amount of money, is a
commercial water .
i call these waters commercials/pay lakes i call them that because they are a commercial venture for money , to gain a profit , weather they do or dont , is neither here nor there imo .
as per usual there are good and bad ventures , some dont give a flying fudge about the stock /fish , they are in the water to pull the punters in , the more in the water the more the angler will catch , when catch rates tail off , they put more fish in , the huge amount of pressure these fish are under means just one thing , high mortality rates , now any caring owner would rest the water , but not these types , they restock with fresh unpressured fish and on it goes 24/7 as long as the punters are happy
and then theres the fish that get stolen from the rivers mostly big fish , because well people will come if they stand a high chance of catching loads of 40s .
of course this is just one side of the commercials , there are the decent ones , that dont over stock , rest there fish , and operate an honest decent holiday for guys that want a holiday with a few fish , and good luck to them , there not in it for huge profits , there living there dream , the sad fact is , they are quite often the ones that struggle , whos fault is that i wonder ? the owners for not going against there morals or the punters that flock to the bad commercials to fill there boots on huge fish in over stocked puddles ?
these are my idea of what a commercial is , i want neither of them , for me its an adventure , i dont want to know how many fish are in the water or how big they are , or there names , i dont need some guy telling me that jack no pecs hangs around the island and is 45.3oz at the moment
i think thisis the one thing most of you dont understand about me , i dont care if i blank , i will travel hundreds of miles and not care if i blank , i will be back and i'll catch (lesson learned )
now the rivers lakes i fish , i pay to fish , in that i pay what is nothing more than a rod licence , there is no monetary gains , so that sure as hell dont fall into the commercial bracket , if any of the rivers i fish ,flood into lakes and gain some stock , so be it , if they are commercial waters , then , freedom is he name if there public lakes , so what its quite a natural thing , is it not ?
these are some of my lines that i fish by , i used to be quite snobbish in how i looked at commercials , but if there honest , then good luck to them , they provide a good service for people that want a relaxing holiday , as my type of fishing is more often than not , flipping hard work lol .

i dont the commercial side of france this year. and although i had a great time and caught some decent fish, i dont think i will be doing it again. just nice to experience it first hand than have people tell me what they think.
if i get the time this year id like to go belgium again and fish some of the park lakes and canals. some awesome fish in the venues over there.

your right, you dont do "proper "france , and theres no point me explaining my idea of "proper" france , as it would most likely fly straight over your head

France is fantastic, if you look you can find big waters with little or no angling pressure. like England was 40 years ago.
If it was good enough for ROD [God] Roger, Kerry and the like it will do for me.
There are however some English who have given us a bad name, get a carte peche, take your litter home, DONT move fish, and most of the Frenchmen I know understand English but they wont admit it.
I do agree, why pay £300 quid to catch someones pet, that was probably stolen from its real home, when you can fish in peace and dream of some unknown fish, or is it the work thing!!!.
