Blanking with the best of emrighto, so lets set the scene
starting on a new water, its a fairly big gravel pit, not huge, about a mile walk all the way round, and its about 19 ft average deapths, its got a few big gravel bars, but its maily silty, with some nice gravely patches, there is one big island, but every man and his dog fishes there so not planning going there too much unless i see some fish showing there....
First day went round with a marker rod, managed to crack off after half an hour so i was just leading around, but made a note of any bars, or gravel spots, but i didnt see any fish show,,,, ahh that brings me nicely onto the subject of fish
there are a fair few bream and tench in there, so large beds of particle and stuff are a deffinate noooo, er, carp, dont know how many but they were stocked 20 years ago, the biggest being around 20lbs, now the biggest is 46 ish with plenty of 30s to go at.... also the waters days only...
the first time i fished it i didnt recieve any action , and again didnt see any fish....
only saw 3 other people, only one was carping, aint it pukka, 5 quid a year for juniors, hardly fished for 46lber,,,,,
anywho went again today, set up in a mint looking bay after a 3/4 of a mile walk, had the wind pounding into it, looked well carpy, so i put one rod in the corner of the bay, one on the marginal shelf and one to a nice gravel bar, at about 50 yards, each had 15 or so 20mm tuna supreme boilies around it, i was listning to the radio and it was about 10 o clock, id only been set up 2 hours and the bobbin on the middle rod on the gravel bar rose slowly and surely,... want a liner, i struck and i was surprised when i felt a fish on the end, i was on braid cos i wanted to be able to find the gravel easily and i could feel the fish shaking it head, felt like a tench or lil carp... after about a minuet it decides to run towards me, im reeling frantically to keep up with him, finally get some pressure back on , one kick, and the hook pulls, oh bother, or words to that effect, i quickly got the rod back out with a fw more freebies, but no action was forth coming, i moved to another peg, with the wind in my face again it looked good, i was just putting out my 3rd rod, a pub chuck on a chiddie, and a good common jumps out about 10 yards in front of me as the lead lands 80 yards further, so that comes straight back in and dropped in the margins, no takes, didnt see any more roll, but at least the peg looks good...
so what are my plans, well, first off get on the enzyme, see if its as good as its meant to be, cos it will just be finding the fish and trying to get one bite, so hoping it will be instant. Next a new video, kind of a blog/diary thing, just trying to catch the biggie, could tale a few years, but should be good if i manage it, will just stick the camera in each session and do a bit of filming here and there, and hopefully get a few fish... er thats about it, will be down next sunday, and im just gonna try and keep on the fish,
find em feed em catch em :)
but if you blanking, remember.... blank with the best of em

seen pictures of 30s, but everyone you ask seems to know about it, im trying to find out who has caught it and get some pics, but it seems everyone knows, was chatting to the baliff and he knows the same, grgowing 20lbs in 20 years isnt perticually fast on a water like than, so i think it is probs true
but still wouldnt mind a few 30s lol

yay, first fish, and not a baddun by my standards, found out from my mate who fishes the place, he had it at 21.... but i had it a bit down on weight at 19lbs... here are the pics... dead simple tactics, basic bottom bait rigs, like the one in tels new book with the tubing and silicon on hook but i have a longer piece of curved shrink tube and a slightly longer hair,... and just had a 4 bait stringer onto the base of a biiiiggg gravel bar, and fired out some source boilies with the stick, then a few hours in at about 11am, got a nice take and fight was pretty uneventful and went in the net first time of asking,... and then got my mum to make the 30 min drive to take some pics lol.... so here they are... on the one side he lost a scale either in the fight or fairly recently, so that was dosed with oras base, but should be fine...
the side missing a scale
other side
back she goes

well another sunday session, and the weather conditions looked spot on, south westerly, really strong and pressure was plummiting at around 6am
i got there at around 8am, and was set up by half past.... 1 rod on the bar where i had the fish last weekend, pretty close in, 2nd rod on the bar about 60 yards range and one in the margins.
at about 10am, i was in my mates swim next door seeing if he had had anything, and then my alarm started screaming, it was the fastest it had ever gone., and being the Ron thopson quality it is, i was expecting it to fall to pieces any second....
i got to the rod and it was still going mentally fast, so picked up the rod and ever so slowly put my finger on the spool to slow it down and eventually gain controll... then i have to get it over the gravel bar, after a good 5 minuets of grating it finally comes over and then it was pretty uneventful and went in the net...
Looked a high teen in the water, but was surprisingly light when i lifted it out, on the scales it went to 13lbs... still well happy with the result, was the only carp out that day... no more action after that apart from my mate losing a huge bream about 15lbs in the margins...
will post pics soon when i get em

well went down to pirelli for a couple of sessions, here are the diary entrys
24th – 26th October 2007 – Pirelli Lake
After spending another couple of days on Oddstones without so much as seeing a fish I decided to knock that on the head until next year, so it was off to Pirelli for a couple of nights.
Joe was there when I got there, so that was a nice surprise and with Monty had a nice social. Anyway, I was on the McDonalds corner and I had 2 rods in the margins and 1 rod on suicide for the first night. I ended up getting a little one about 10lbs, and had a go with the new self take camera, and they turned out ok.
No fish on the second night, but a good social lol
11th – 12th November 2007 – Pirelli Lake
After having a weekend off, I was gagging to get back on Pirelli, so I arranged to have a quick overnighter after work. I finally got there about 6:30pm, I set up in a swim I knew well, car park corner, the wind was really howling into it, and looked like a good place.
I set up camp, and had one rod on the bush in the corner, one to the scaffold, and the final one at the bottom of the marginal shelf.
After a few problems with the wind, I was in bed at around 12pm. It was lovely and warm in the new sleeping bag and cover, so a good nights sleep looked like it was on the cards. But it wasn’t to be, at around 1am, I had a single beep on my right hand rod, fished on the bush, so I sat up to see what was going on, and was about to put my shoes on when it started taking some line.
After a great fight, in the net was a nice mirror, on the scales it went 11lb 12oz, I took a few pics on self take, but they weren’t that great.
After that action, the night was pretty eventless, and I woke at about 7am, when it was light for the first time that session, I had a quick lap of the lake but there was nothing much showing, so I got back to my swim and moved my right hand rod right near to a marginal bush about 5 ft away, and not 2ft from the bank, I was fishing locked up, so after a couple of hours, a few beeps signalled it was time to take action, no time for finesse, I clamped down on the spool, and it was away from the first hazard, and then it went charging out into the middle of the lake, the clutch was fairly tight and it was taking line easily, I began to think I was into one of the better fish in the lake.
I got it near the margins and the boil it left on the surface confirmed my suspicions, and it had another go at getting in the bush, but it wasn’t going to win that easily, after nearly taking out my other lines, a good ten minutes later, he was in the net, it could go 20.
When unhooking it, I saw the hinged stiff rig had nailed him good and proper. I secured him in the net, and got my brother to come down and help with weighing and pictures.
On the scales he went 19lb 12oz, not quite 20lbs, but I aint too fussed over 4ozs.
We snapped off a load of pics, and she was soon back in he watery home sulking in the margins.
I packed up after that, but a great session for saying it wasn’t even 20 hours.
