Big common from down underhttp://anglers.proboards23.com/in...amp;action=display&thread=629 -
Edit oops you cant see the photo sorry !!
Its a common carp weighing in at 38lb 10oz was captured by Mark York of SCAC (Sydney Coarse Angling Club) at Parramatta Lake, I don't have date or time details but the fish was taken on sweetcorn & maggots .
Bit of a lump taken down under here fellas - but not the greatest photo ever likely to grace the cover of Carp Addict !!!!
cheers Simon

shame that clown doesn't know how to handle and hold fish.
cant believe he's sanding up over concrete.

Do yourself a favour and get an unhooking mat or some sort of protector to lay the fish on , never never stand up holding a fish for a photo get on your knees and hold it otherwise you're looking at a dead carp if it flips out your arms !!

Was the fish returned alive?

I think the only anglers really into fish care are european anglers with the english being top of the tree.
I bet that mad aussie laid the fish on the concrete his standing on to unhook it
The thought makes me shudder!

nice fish, shame about the captor

My thoughts was the same as Carpcruncher there’s just no need to stand with a carp unless its in a sling.

I don’t think this rule is on all waters down OZ, just on some rivers I think?
Wonder if Simon can shine some light on that, if it’s a no return rule on that water?

I am led to believe that this carp was returned, in a country where carp are left to die and used as fertiliser. I actually say fair play to the captor and whilst fish care is paramount to us UK carpers, it is not always the case over the globe.
Lets not be to quick to condemn folks, as a mere generation or so ago, carp were killed and mounted as trophies, taken to the local butchers shop to be weighed and the list gos on
Bow fishing in the US.......Illegal to return fish in Germany.......Tagging of fins in a lot of Europe...Vermin in a lot of countries....
Is standing up with a fish, with no unhooking mat, BUT returning the fish unharmed so bad really?
kind regards Jeff

Well you say “unharmed” Jeff, but who’s to say seconds after that photo was taken the carp didn’t flips out of his arms to his death?
If your intention is to go out to kill for food or sport so be it.
I think its far worse risking an injury or death to any fish that you not planning to kill.

Not 100% sure on the ruling to 'return' fish alive to Aussie waters (rivers + lakes)
Pretty sure the 'law' as it applies to the transfering of live carp from one location to another carries huge fines ($)
Valid points Jaffa makes ref historical activities
There is a really tiny group of secret squirrel carp anglers (mainly ex UK carp anglers) across Oz who keep carp captures generally confined to private messages/emails because 'agency officials' have been known in the past to monitor forums for location reports and then target those waters for fish kill programs

Im with Jeff on this one
I dont see anything wrong with what that guy is doing
theres no need for you to all jump on the " on dear god no unhooking mat " band wagon and slag the guy off
This isnt concerned with what goes on in the UK...its Australia where there are different cultures and attitudes towards fish care....for all you know this guy could have once bow fished until he was persuaded otherwise
Sure, having an unhooking mat helps...but how many times in your past have you put down fish on anything other than an unhooking mat?
I've put down carp on loose gravel when i was a kid....and i can tell you i am 100% sure that there was never a single scratch on any of them, and they all went back right as rain......carp are pretty hardy and can withstand alot of abuse.
theres no need to be derogatory towards this guy just because he might not know any better?
oh, and if you look closely, that might be a wet towel or something on the ground
Good angling to the captour

Spooks your missing the point and by a long way buddy......
In Australia, carp are VIRMIN!!!!!!!.....Catch one and throw it on the bank....Fertiliser!!!!!
Carping is Australia is in a similar state to carping in the UK some 30 odd years ago. I am not 100% sure, but I would wager that unhooking mats are few and far between buddy. If at all
I would rather see a carp being held, standing up and returned safely, than a carp being thrown aside, left to die and become fertiliser!
Education Not condemnation
Carping is many things to many folk and is totally different from country to country
kind regards Jeff

Noooooooo ..I just think we looking at it from different views!
I can understand your point about its better “him not using an unhooking mat and putting it back alive, than killing it” .. but not all Australia is like that now. Sydney Coarse Angling Club I believe is run by ex Brits?
Looking at that photo, I don’t see an Australia angler, I just see an angler. And its bad angling
Iv seen many photos like this of British anglers, again it’s not the fact the anglers British that makes him a bad angler, its his attitude to fish care.
