Anglers that drop in behind you. What do you think about anglers that drop in behind you.
Just been reading TonyMs post in UCN CATCH REPORT
| Quote: | | m8 dropped in behind me yesterday and had a 41 Mirror..apparantly it was dumping my bait all over his mat...... | Do you think this is good / bad angling when you see other anglers waiting to drop in behind you?
As Tony said it was his mate, and no doubt he will do the same for Tony?
Do you think this is good or bad angling?

good question ghost ,
lots of ways this can be looked at imo ,
but heres my take on it
if your on the fish and you have to leave while the fish are still feeding , then its good to give a m8 the nodd , and tell to get there arsein the swim pronto , this to me is good angling ,
if your m8 catches a fish bigger than you did , well you just have to take it , lady luck favoured your m8 more , this time !!
if how ever , your fishing a little unknown mark , that you have primed , and someone spends a lot of time watching you , walking behind you , watching what direction your lines enter the water , and lining them up with far bank features etc , then jumps in behind you , well thats bad angling , and he deserves to be shot for the dirty piggy backer he is
also bivvying up behind you is very bad angling imo , i had it done to me once , funny that i decided to stay a few more days

What happened to me on this occasion has been done to me a fair few times, having to leave at 7am to go to work when a few fish may be showing is something ive had to deal with, most evenings i do go back to fish after work, which in fairness to the lads, they know, and leave me alone, but this certain m8, will think nothing of moving in behind anyone when they leave, he's had 2 40's and a shed load of good fish doing this, now some may say it's bad angling some will say the opposite, as far as i'm concerned, i have to leave to go to work, so the swim is there for the taking, this particular fish came out at 9am, so i wouldn't have been there anyway, so in fairness it doesn't really bother me, now the lads who sneak up when your marking up and baiting, now there a differant bread all together, but there's plenty of little things you can do to throw em of the scent....just ask the matey who followed me in last week, he watched me twice walk my rods out and clip up, what he didn't notice was i was adding another 4 rod lenghts after he thought i'd clipped up, apparantly he spent 5 hrs smashing the granny out of the swim trying to find my spot........then went back to his original swim....MUPPET!!!!!

Theres a publicity shy lake near me that has this practice of "dropping in behind you" you could be in a prime swim and have a session planned for 48hours right, then 30minutes after you get there a bloke could come to the swim and bivvy up behind you and wait for you to vacate the swim!!
What do you lot think of that then??!?!?!

I just would not fish a water where dropping in behind people is common place, if a lakes that busy I wont be there!
I would not like to fish a swim that has just been fished in.
I wouldn't want anyone to jump in a swim I have just vacated and probably baited, its annoying.

Ive only had i happen to me once, the lake was rammed, not one single swim left. this guy turn`s up and walk`s round asking when folk were leaving, well i was going to be the first off so he set up his bivvy, rod`s net and just about every thing else come to think of it. he was a nice chap that just wanted to wet a line. i still had another 8 hour`s to go before i packed up. but i was gone within 3, i just couldn't listen to him arguing on the phone to his misses any longer.
not a piggy backer just a guy trying to get away from it all.
i did think it a bit cheeky that he set up the whole shooting match and didn't leave me much room to work. but i could understand why he did it, so i wasn't to bothered.
folk that sit and watch and then jump in trying to steal the fruit`s of your labour.......well that just wrong IMO.

it's angling i'm afraid...
i personally wouldn't have anyone set up behind me and would tell them in no uncertain terms to get lost..........
i fish where i want to, regardless of what others have or have not been doing in certain swims......
for the lazy watchers out there, as said, plenty of things you can do, rod tips under water, back leads etc etc.....i've actually baited into thick weedbeds [ slightly to the side of spots ] and had fish on singles then watch as others put the bait in....spodded water....etc.

a lot of my fishing is overnights packing up at 6ish, I've given up caring what others do and i'm better for it.
Unless you have some cooperation within a syndicate about leaving peoples areas alone... if a swim is empty its fair game. I do go to lengths to prevent others from knowing what i'm up to though.

I mainly fish quiet waters and where most anglers know one another.
I can remember more than once when I was on fish and catching but needed to go, an angler who was walking around just about to start fishing, ( I give him info on my day) he’s one that will jump in behind you, but will try not to show, he will wait till you go then jump in. its just funny when I pop back later just for a walk around and maybe a chat, .. this angler will not say thanks for the info, he will make out like he’s done the work.. Lol but to me I needed to go and my time was up, so id enjoy it more if I have helped someone out.

I think this is bad angling, if someone wanted my peg after me, ask me what time im going, leave your bag there, then get lost. (that to me is ok) but to just wait behind someone is just wrong.

On a runs water yesterday and a bloke decided to double up with me and then he invited his mate in the swim aswell
This was a single swim aswell
COVERED my swim in mixers and neadless to say I didn't get a bite on the bottom
You really can't teach etiquette

did you say anything CC?
I don’t mind anyone asking to fish along the side of me. But I will tell them where the line is where they can fish up to or do what they want up to there.

See, this is just one reason that I rarely fish in the UK any longer... I love the larger lakes in France, but even moreso the HUGE venues in Spain...
I fish venues where I can't even SEE another angler - now that's quality fishing!

Its only happened to me once when I was fishing over Broadlands in Hampshire, I wasnt leaving till late in the afternoon, some guy came up to me about 7am in the morning and asked me when was I going, I told him in the afternoon and he said can I start setting up behind you?? I could hardly say No!! It was so annoying having someone glaring at me for the rest of the day, so I packed up early and buggered of home!!
