Hello there - my name`s Simon [AKA bigkipper] and I'm the site head moderator so if you need any help, just shout - there will always be someone ready to point you in the right direction.

I first started fishing at the age of 5 when my dad would take me to the local park lake in Essex to catch roach and rudd.  From that day on, the seed was sown and I have been an angler ever since.

a move to Devon saw me start match fishing, and from then specimen fishing for eels, but then I caught my first carp - that was 18 years ago now - and I'm still at it and as keen as ever.

me with a 50+

Hi folks, I'm Mac (real name Mark Cresswell) and live in the market town of Ashbourne in Derbyshire. Been fishing for about 30 years. Pretty much the usual tale, started on the local canal happy to catch anything that came along and progressed to Bream, Tench etc. Then one day a friend borrowed me a carp rod, cast it out and about an hour later I had a 14lber on the bank. The fight was like nothing I'd experienced and a carper was born! I still enjoy other aspects of fishing, especially fishing on my local river The Dove. 2006 saw me catch my 1st barbel and since have had a few others too.
Other hobbies, I'm an avid fan of Derby County Football Club. Been a season ticket holder since 1985. Also occasionally follow the National team home and away and have had the pleasure of seeing them in places such as Azerbaijan and Macedonia.

My very 1st carp caught on my home-made boilies (please excuse the legs)

My 1st Barbel

Well guys I supose its my turn to let ya all know a bit about me. Everyone knows me as JAFFA,but my real name is Jeff Lemaistre and I reside in one of the best areas in the world for carping. I am located right in the middle of the Colne Valley.

49 years ago,my Mum and Dad produced a "true wonder of the world" and 6 years later I caught my first fish. A small roach from a famous water called The Cons. My father was an avid pleasure angler and he taught me well.

Time moved on and at the ripe old age of 10, I got "totally smashed up" by a monster from the deep and a carper was born. A couple of really old gents, took me under their wings and taught me much of what I still hold dear today. The pure romance of carping, the real vibe of being with one with nature and also taught me much of such things as watercraft and the way to treat my fellow angler as well as the nature around me.

My fishing in the UK has not really moved much out of the valley. But I have travelled extensively overseas to fish for carp. Countries include. France countless times, Spain, Italy, Germany, Gran Canaria and even wetted a line in the good old U.S of A.

The pinnacle of my carping years focus around 3 seperate events. I was lucky enough to grace the banks of Redmire pool and was totally in awe of the place. The hardest water I have ever fished, has to be Chira in Gran Canaria. Proper "hardcore" carping.

But the thing that has given more pleasure out of carping, actually has nothing to do with wetting a line. Around 4 years ago and dispite much negativness around me. I presided over the birth of the a youngsters section called THE ZONE. A private forum, solely for the use of any carper under the age of 18. A true learning area, free from abuse, free from any form of hype, where youngsters could post with confidence and grow to become carpers of the future with the vibe of the past. The section has been a massive success and now boasts over 100 members.

Me with the prettiest fish I have ever caught.

Hardcore carping all the way.

The hardest fighting common I have ever caught, look at the paddles on it!

My carping today revolves around visiting local lakes and a bit of traveling for things like youngsters events and workshop weekends. I have long since given up targeting fish, taking photos of fish, and even weighing them. I just want to go,enjoy the whole thing and be happy doing so.

kind regards Jeff

Hi fellow Carp Addict members, My Name is Ron Woodward ( AKA Big Ron )
I’ve been an angler from a very young age… from playing in streams and lakes when I was just a young lad, to what I do now … Which is traveling all over the world in pursuit of my quarry.
I don’t know about you, but I seem to have a deep in-built desire inside me, to search out my prey, wherever it may swim and once I have found it, set my traps in all sorts of waters and conditions in my quest to catch it.

You may have seen some of my articles on Carp fishing abroad, in the various magazines I’ve written for over the years, like Carp Talk, Big Carp, Carpworld and my Marco Polo series published in Carp Fisher.

But about 7 years ago my attention turned to the pursuit of big Cats and I started writing for Whiskers, the CCG’s publication.

Then about 3 year’s ago I returned to my beloved carp and I’ve been writing for International Carper and also had a piece in Carp Addict. I don’t write that much as being Dyslexic its very challenging to me, but I do have to from time to time, put into words some of my exploits and the trials and tribulations of fishing in far off places ….I have no sponsors to satisfy, but do have a desire to try and help my fellow anglers, with some of my experiences, good and bad. That’s most likely why I also have so many articles published on web sites all over the world!

In the past I’ve fished a lot in the UK and I’m still a member of a number of organizations, such as the BCSG, CS, CCG, EMCSG. But these days I find my desire as an anger is to travel to foreign destinations all over the globe, in my search for Big Fish with no names. My travels have taken me to many different countries, like Spain, France, USA and the Canaries and I’ve fished all types of waters from the massive reservoirs like Lac Du Der Chantecoq in France to the very small streams and also the large wild rivers like the Ebro in Spain.

So as you can see, I have gained quite a bit of experience over the many years I have been perusing my prey and I’m always willing to pass any of this on.
I’m also still learning something new each trip and long may that continue.

Brace of 150,s +

Big Common

In my 50th year as an angler I am still just as passionate now as I've ever was in those halcyon days of yore when, during a long hot summer (did it ever rain back then?), I experienced that very first trip out - That was in 1957 on my 5th birthday... Off I toddled with my grandfather, down to the sea wall and I caught an eel... re-sult! - and an angler was born!

25 years of course and sea angling later, followed by a further 25 years (and counting) of Carp-Angling, rounds it all off nicely for the half century!

I am by nature friendly and gregarious, and as with most carp anglers, I like to chat about drink, women, fast cars, football etc, but as most people will tell you, no matter where I may be, or who I'm talking to, I nearly always talk carp.... at least thats what I think they said! LOL

Being there right from the start, the launch of Carp Addict was a momentous occasion in my humble life, and I am immensely proud of what we have achieved... I'm now doing what I always dreamed of doing... living the dream!

Hi all,
Well my real name is Rob, but mostly known as robvford as that’s my username to the forum.
Being under 18 ive been a member of the ZONE for a little over a year now and always being around found me being asked to be a moderator.

I started fishing at the age of 11 when on holiday me and my dad bought a nice telescopic rod (which soon broke), A dead ragworm and some massive sea hooks.
That afternoon saw us trying to tempt possibly the most frustrating fish I have ever come across.
The mighty mullet.
Needless to say I blanked but it mattered not as my first fish was a sea bass a week later from a local creek which I still visit occasionally.

Several years of sea fishing I stumbled across another fisherman. But instead of sea fishing, Mr greasley was a keen coarse fisherman.
After maggot drowning on the local river and lakes we discovered our own gem…an untouched lake in the middle of some woods.
First carp rod was a sea spinning rod and with some ready made rigs and Matts supervision it wasn’t long before we were catching from this little piece of paradise.

Later on I caught my first double, then a twenty and now I can safely say I have had the carping bug for possibly 3 years or more and still learning.

so here i am now, one of the moderators of the ZONE. always willing to help and share any tips or tricks i discover along the way. always willing to have a chat about anything carpy.

Although I get the shakes when I think about big carp, the nature around us still captures my imagination. Waking up to your quiet lake as the mist is beginning to roll off. As that morning sun burns through the clouds and those first morning rays flash through the trees across your face waking you up to another perfect day to be fishing.

Just being there is more then enough

My turn..,

Hi, im Matt, im 16 and have been a member of the zone for something like 3 years now cripes! And have been a moderator for 2 ish months (i think lol)

I first came to the zone when an old friend, Iain Mac, saw me on another forum and invited me in, ive never looked back.

I started fishing at the young age of 7, for anything that would come along on the local basingstoke canal, as the family moved around with the army, i moved onto different waters and different species, i was addicted to tench for a while, until i met long time friend rob, who got me into sea fishing, and the coarse fishing was very much on hold for a good two years until it was my turn and me and my dad took him coarse fishing, a turning point in his life im sure he will agree.

it wasnt long until the carp captivated 90% of my thoughts (this was when we found our little secret lake). Carp have maintained an ever growing amount of enthusiasm in my life ever since my first run on that lake, sometimes the smaller carp are just as important as the bigger ones, and that 5lb common definitely meant alot.

After moving away from the south, all the way up to north yorkshire, i went through a year with very little coarse/carp fishing done, instead we had a fun year or two fly fishing on the rivers, but i was never passionate about this, and as soon as i had found a decent carp lake the fly kit was put away.

When i look back i feel a real carper was born at christmas, when i got some half decent gear, my next few trips were to be some of my most memorable, because as my armory grew, so did my knowledge, experience and attention to detail and in a matter of months i went from having a very low average catch result, to one of the highest on my venue.

I have given just about every type of fishing a bash, pike, barbel, chub, fly, coarse, match (no poles!!), sea and carp, but im always willing to try something new!

I like to help so dont be shy to ask if you need anything, ill be more than happy to help you in any way i can (that goes for all the mods!)

Tight lines all!
