i love eel fishing, although i didint get to do any last year
my best is 3.2 so far...kept on catching pike or carp on my eel baits!
theres nothing quite like the fight they put up...the eels ive caught have pulled harder than 30lbs carp |

back in my speciman hunting day's i did quite a bit of eel fish and had them to 5+ , i found that using lobworms and small dead baits fished over large amounts of dead maggots was a very good method .
the lea valley pits have some of the best ( almost -untapped ) eel fishing for miles . _________________ Echoes and silence

no mate, a mature ell is only about 5 or 6 year old and waying about 2 to 2 1/2 pounds. and are what you would say ready to sporn.
ells that grow bigger in are waters are usualey either land locked. meaning there is no way to leave the water that thay are in.
or thay have lost the urge to sporn so live out there lives in there new home. there growth rate depends on food avalible and how long thay may live in a certian water. eg water quality. _________________ under 18? Get in THE ZONE

we have eels in our uk catfish lake "Sandersons"
we have netted several to over 6lb!
with the lakes nearing there 100th birthday we all thought the eels were the oldest inhabitants
Waht is the chances of the 6lb eels being netted, copping the hump and moving to the other lakes on the complex? |

I saw one netted out of my club lakes stock pond once, over 7lb... a bloody great thing it was too
Needless to say, it never went back into the stock pond and was moved to the speci carp lake - I wonder if any of the lads ever hooked it at night :?: can you imagine the pandamonium trying to bank that thing!
I've had 'em to well over 4lb, apart from a few congers in the solent that is! _________________ <(>< C <(>< A <(>< R <(>< P <(>< A <(>< D <(>< D <(>< I <(>< C <(>< T <(><

when an ell leaves a water it is usualey to migrate back to the sargasa sea [sp] but ells have been known to move under angling pressure. this may sound strange but it`s true. the late john siddly had been fishing a ress and had a few good ell`s out word got round and nearly every ell angler in the country was on there. one night he had a look in the sluse gates of the ress and found many ells of various size`s. his thought`s were that thay were moveing because of angling pressure. _________________ under 18? Can anyone confirm whatr the top weight for a UK Eel is? I have had them to 5.5lb in the spring. Fishing for tench with maggots over maggots and hemp & mini halibut pellet seemed to produce eels on most sessions.
Fight like stink on light tackle... loads of fun. |

Did a 24hr session yesterday 29th till this morning and had 2 of the little darlings, 1 at 4lb 10oz and one at 3lb 4oz on boilie.
I have to get my m8 to weigh them because I can't stand them, I'm have had them to 5lb plus but because I was on my own they went back without weighing, glad I use barbless hooks because I couldn't touch them.
I'm certain there are some real big buggers in my syndicate lake but no one targets them.

It seems in my quest for virgin carp this season that i am transforming in to quite an accomplished eel angler. had countless 3-7lbers. Can't seem to keep rigs out all night through the damn things. Doing me swede in.
One day i'll conquer these carp. _________________ Shhhhhhhhh. |
