Personally I would say a carp rod is a little too stiff for chubbing but if you have nothing else it will do the job. No bite alarm required, just wait for the 3ft twitch _________________ under 18? Get in THE ZONE

For chub I usually use a light quiver tip rod 6-8lb line,(x-line) a 1/4oz lead, 10-14 inch hooklenth, size 8-10 hook(drennan super specialist barbel) either bit of luncheon meat on a hair, or my favorite chub bait stilton cheese paste (made with stilton/ liquidised bread) moulded round a bit of plastic sinking corn on a hair.
When quiver tipping bites can at times very suttle, a little rat a tat tat, and at other times they can be very agressive.
Be ready for the bites as you can often miss them if you strike to late.
Location usual stuff, overhangs, reedbeds, deep areas, snags, open water creases in flow, fast areas, slow areas etc anywhere really, have a rove about.
My PB chub is 5lb 5oz caught on a tiger nut while carp fishing
My PB while proper chub fishing is 4lb 11oz caught on cheese paste
Hope this helps MM |

you could try a small maggot feeder with double maggot on the hook
thats what i usually do
and just cast tight in to a snag - thats were they are normally holding _________________ Ben |

| go roving, freeline either lob worms or cheesepaste, no weight on the line and watch the line for twitches and bites ...chub fishing is simplicity itself |

i used to do a lot of river fishing for chub. I would reccomend a light quiver rod because some bites are really weak and 4-6lb line is fine. For bait i would go simple just use a lump of cheese, but keep it simple. I caught my pb chub of 4lb 6oz on a lump of quivertipped cheese.
Good luck.
