Right its about time i started one of these blogs, it feels strange to start one on a blank but hey.
Right i just did a short overnighter on my regular syndicate i arrived to find out that there had been two fish caught one small common and another mirror of 18lb. I chose my swim mainly because i have been baiting it for a while, i was quite confident up until dusk then the confidence just faded and deep down i new another blank was on the cards, the morning came and i was awoken by the geese in the neighbouring pit going out to feed, i got out of the bivvy and realised why i may not have caught the sun was out and it was a bright day a look at my mates weather watch confirmed it the pressure had risen right up to 1036 i dragged out packing up then me and dad did the off.

When dad dropped me of i sat at home bored and was thinking about the new water i am going to start fishing next season, I then asked mother if she would take me to have a look around amazingly she agreed. When you come up to this lake you drive along about a quarter of it length before you get to the layby and you get a few glimpses of the lakes awsome snags, these snags are the most intimidating snags ive come up against, we pulled up in the layby and i jumped our to see what was what i stood in the carp park swim of the great lake looked out into the massive piece of the open part then i proceeded to walk to one of the quite bays, i skillfully (cough) scaled a tree to see what i could see, predictably there was nothing there but i then walked round the rest of the immense lake, about an hour later i arrived back at the carpark swim it was then i swore out loud to my self that i hadnt taken any pictures of the lake, i took a few snaps of the carpark swim and the first small bay you come too, i couldnt get any pictures of the snaggy part of the lake and i certainly wasnt walking back round there! both parts of the pit are about 50 acres. But anyway here are some pictures of the lake i will be tackling next season.

This is the first bay.

Looking out from the car park swim

Looking toward the snag part

Another small bay near the car park

Nothing is known about this lake at all really there were carp in it but everyone stopped fishing it, so whether they have been nicked or whether there still in there no one knows.

Right i learned a bit about the big pit and theres 3 carp been caught out of there in the last 5 years and these were high twenties low thirties and theres rumoured to be much bigger!

This is carp bay, it is where the three carp have been caught each time they have been out and where the monster has been seen. it is the clearest part of the snag part.

This is a picture of the pits whole length it is taken on the north bank and it is on the point, there is two big bays either side of me. The trees you can see in when the water stops is the start of the snag pit! then you have the same amount of water in the snags.

And this is the best picture i have of the snags and the snags part is stuffed with these snags they are awsome!

Well i thought i might as well bring this up to date!
Ive done one session on the big lake and blanked predictably didnt see a thing but learnt one or two things, first of all the open part is the most barren featureless piece of water i have ever seen its just flat solid gravel!
Done alot on my syndicate havnt bagged one yet but lost two, seen a very large carp in a little spot which then got snatched from me and it was landed!
22nd march, syndicate over nighter
I set up in the "snags" or 17 as its known, its a good bet for a winter bite and there was one out of there the night before i arrived so it was good enough for me. I got my bivvy up set up, got my rods ready had one on a bottom bait which for the record was my own homemades, one was on a scopex squid liver rr pop up "chodded" and the other was a normal scopex squid liver pop up "chodded", i chucked my pop ups out and then dashed down to dads swim to fetch the boat, sent my bottom bait out and settled in for the night, then it started to rain, then hail! Night fell and it was the same story for all of the night, until 3.00am when i recieved a series of short blips on my middle rod placed in a tight gap on the far bank, i dashed out then it stopped i dashed back in, then it blipped again, i chucked my coat on and went to the rod and picked it up, there was a fish there it shook its head a bit then bang the hook dropped out, gutted or what, i didnt bother rebaiting it because i was seriously annoyed with myself, i just went in the bivvy soaked took my wet garments off (coat) then just zipped my door down  and just slept until about 8.00 am.
I woke up and unzipped my door, i was then beaten back into my bivvy by vicious hail, it stopped 10mins later, i looked across the lake and saw my mate andy was into one, i puit my damp water proofs on and legged it round to him to lend a helping hand, we netted it weighed it, it went 21lb15oz a cracking old warrior a true original, we went to photograph it but the hail returned and we took some snaps on the mat before sprinting into his bivvy for tea and biscuits.
We packed up with everything soaked and went home to try and dry out.

Hopefully i will be able to reprt my first fish on tuesday as im of to a runs water tuesday

Finally! my first carp ive landed since september! And my first of this year.
I arrive at the venue and set up on the front of the wind, it was a strong wind but it was bitterly cold, i got set up chucked my rods out and awaited events, next thing i hear a delkim screaming at the top its voice i look next to me and my mate is into one! A bright orange and purple koi linear was the culprit what a stunner it was!
After that we sat there for 3 hours with nothing hapening, we decided on a move of swims we set up in a wind sheltered part of the lake, i put two running rigs at 30 yards range on the reed bed opposite me one on my homemades and one on the good old ssl+, again i hear the delkims war cry and i see rich bent into another one! we landed that and it was a small one this time.
10mins later the delks at it again and rich bends into another! i land this one and as it hits the next something extraordinary happend!
I heard this noise coming from my pocket? a strange beep noise. I ran to my rods the right hand rod was ripping of big style, i picked up into it and felt resistance and the hook didnt fall i was into a carp!! After 3-4mins or so i landed it my first carp for a long time! A 7lb linear no photos just a little video to capture the moment and she went back. The rod went back on the spot with about 3 pouches of boilies on it, 5 mins later it ripped of again, after quite a good ruck it was in the net, a 13 pound mirror.
One more carp followed this fish but it was quite small. Im chuffed to bits and its gave me confidence in my rigs and my bait.

This was the 13lb mirror

Pleased as punch

I went to the same venue again but concentrated on the main lake, i started of in a swim which has always seen me in good steed, left hand rod was a chodded white chocolate pop up over about half a kilo of freebies, left hand rod was on  clean silt spot id found and spodded 5 spods of hemp to.
After 3 hours it became clear to me that the fish wernt interested in feeding on the baited spot but they were all over my choddy, baited with mixed boilies, but they wouldnt pick my white chocolate pop up up, i changed it to a bottom bait and waited but half an hour later i got bored of waiting and went for a wander with my mixers as it was very sunny.
I came up to a quite little bay and spotted about 8 fish i put 1 pouchfull of floaters out, and watched, they started pacmanning them instantly! i put two more big pouches out while i fethed my rods and net.
I crept up to them mullering the mixers, i cut the two leadcore leaders of and tied on two running leads with zigs on, one about 7ft of bottom and one about 4ft of bottom, the 4 was lowered into the margins near some reeds were i have spotted the fish patroling, the 7 was placed to the left of the mixers. I sat back and waited i watched a good mirror come right up to the margin zig and mouth it but it then moved on.
I thought i will move round the bay and put a different line angle on them, i went to fetch my stuff, I was walking back to my brolly, i picked up my chair and rucksack and walked towards the rods when i recieved a blip, then another, i watched the rod bounce, i dropped my stuff and ran for it, the indicator pulled up tight when i picked it up and the fish was on.
After a decent ruck at close quarters, i netted it,a bloke came round to offer a hand, but he was soon running bck to his brolly as it started to rain. I unhooked it and weighed it 16lb 10oz it went, i was slipping it back when i thought about photos i took a quick snap on my phone and away she went.

I got moved round to the bay and pulted out 5 pouches of mixers into open water, they came up instantly, i placed one zig too the left and one to the right, as i felt the right hand zig down i went to clip it up, but then the handle started to spin backwards in my hand i was in again! i lifted into it and it felt small so i bullied it a bit, then as it was wallowing around the left hand rod started blipping and i saw the rod tip bouncing i had a take on that one too!
I quickly hurried this small fish into the net and picked the other rod up and bent into the fish, this one just came in like a wet sack and was in the net aswell!, i ran round to matey down the bank to get some help and he came down to assist, i unhooked the smaller fish in the net and slipped it out to make thing easier, i lifted the second fish out, the hook had come out in the net, i weighed it 13lb 2oz it was a nice looking ghost common, it was photographed and slipped back.

It went very quite after this all the time i was in the bay i had a bottom bait out on the quite  and didnt have a sniff!

First on the zigs wehey!

Right got some serious updating to do here!

21st june
Syndicate

FINALLY, i brok my nine month blank on the lake!, i was set up in my favourite peg, peg 10. I started baiting as soon as i got there scattering some scopex squids all around a set of pads about 50 yards out,  the day went quite quickly and soon enough i had put the baits out for the night, and was soon chatting with the bloke in the next door peg who had came into my swim.
Darkness fell shortly after and i had walked up to the snags to see if anything was jumping, i was walking back when i got a few peeps on the alarms and i was now running back past my bivvy looking at my middle rod illumminated in white led light, i dashed down to it picked it up and battle engaged, there was no real fight, until i put my headlight on then it exploded into life and ran out into the lake, after about 5 more minutes it was slipped over the cord and i let out a shout of relief my blank was over!

At over 18lb i was extatic to say the least

26thjune-28thjune
Syndicate
Back at the syndicate for a two nighter, id set up in the snags for the first night, and it was miserable weather for the first night, we'd finally got our baits out and it was just falling dark, it was about 11 o,clock when i got a take on my right hand rod on the far margin, i hit into it and was met with nothing i wound it in about half way then i hit something which turned out to be a real grotty looking tench! i just chucked the rod  back out into open water and retired back the the bivvy, my trousers were now well and truly soaked so i changed into the only change of trousers i had, which were a pair of bloomin shorts!About ten minutes later i had a phone call from dad, i couldnt get a word of it apart from i could make out he had got a double take and was in desperate need of help, i ran round in the pouring rain (in shorts and t-shirt) i was running up to his swim, i could see it was the two rods on the snag to the left hand side of the swim that had gone off, he shouted that one was snagged and the other was in open water, i sadi il get the boat, so i ran round got the life jacket and jumped into the boat and came across to his swim, dad had landed the other fish and kept it in the net, to cut a long story a bit shorter we lost the fish i was drenched and i was floating around in the middle of a lake at some unearthly hour!

Morning came and i had nothing, i made a make shift washing line with leadcore and three banksticks and hung my sodden clothes up to dry, later on i moved round to swim 9, next to a mate who had already had a 21 in the night which i also photographed and go even wetter.
Nothing happend during the day evening came and i got a rod wrenching take under a tree to the rightof the pallet and i landed a 9lb stocky i was well chuffed with it. Nothing else occured during the night, morning came and my mate rang again and he had another fish in the net, my target fish the two tone linear i was a bit gutted but well pleased all in one!
Then as i was packing up i had a very slow but steady take on my right hand rod which i had just chucked to a bubbling fish, i connected with a heavy weight after a slow and heavy fight it surfaced and then came in easily!
on the mat it went 24lb 10oz a linear on one side and almost a fully on the other, the pictures i have do it NO justice, when i eventually get dads camera over you will see just how impressive it is!

Stocky 9lb

24lb 10oz linear
