Going to Spain in 3 weeks time and aparently there are plenty of 30lb+ barbel in this stretch :!: cripes!

Anyone here ever had one anywhere near this big before - I'm well interested to hear about it if you have!

As you know Steve, 2006 saw me catch my 1st Barbel at "only" 7lb, the fight was absolutley awesome so if you can catch something 3 times the size or even bigger, HOLD ON TIGHT!!!!

Had a Golden Comizo just over half that size, got some cracking barbel pics in our gallery, few mid 30's

Did you know?

There are three types of Comizo (Spains largest barbel)

Anyone that has been there knows what a special place it is.

I did not want to return to the Ebro, but..................

Steve, I'm told that the comizo barbel in the Guardiana can be up to (nearly?) as much as 40lb (max)... what is the max as far as you know of in the Ebro fella :?:

There may well be 40lb+ fish in the Guadiana!

As far as the Ebro goes the cats have nearly eaten them all, you get the odd small pocket here and there in and around mequinenza and down on the lower delta but have only ever seen one in the flesh.

If you want big barbel, they live down south. Im doing quite a bit of work with Peter Staggs this year. Touch wood a few nice ones will grace our nets.

So LB for LB do you reckon Barbel are a harder fighting fish? I've only them to just over 8lb and the strength in them is unbelievble :o

thats not me holding that barbel by the way , its Peter Staggs .
ive had barbel to just over 12lb in this country and about the same in france , imo lb for lb barbel have more power than mirror carp , but when it comes to common carp , the barbel does it for that first burst of power , but overall the common carp has far more strength/stamina .

I had a 29lb common from the same spot as I had my 17lb 4oz Golden comizo.

The carp ripped off like a steam train and was netted some 10 mins later after a cracking scrap.

When I lifted into the barbel and played it for some 15 mins, I thought I had a 100lb catfish on the end during most of the fight!!!!!!

I have Pete in our barbel gallery, the same fish is in our downloadable brochure, a 32lb bar of golden comizo.

If you can post pics maple please post that one for us so everyone can have a butchers.
